Just thought I'd do a quick thread on my new Sebo. I've jumped ship from Kirby for the time being and the Sebo is my new daily driver!

I'd originally gone to John Lewis and was planning on buying their 'exclusive' X4 Excel machine at £279.99. However once I got there this plan went out the window and I admitted to myself that I wouldn't be happy if I didn't have the top X4 model LOL

So I walked away with the X4 Pet Eco Boost for £309.95. I also picked up a spare box of the ultra bags and a spare exhaust filter.

I didn't think the boost feature would be something I'd use, but now that I've got it I'm glad that I spent that bit more as its actually really good.

For those of you that don't know anything about the Sebo X range there is the entry level X1.1 Eco.

The next model up is the X4 Extra Eco and this comes with everything the X1.1 does plus a dusting brush and stair cleaning hose. The John Lewis Excel Eco model is the same as the X4 Extra, just in a different colour scheme.

Then there is the X4 Pet Eco Boost. This comes with everything the X1.1 does plus an anti odour charcoal filter system, stair cleaning hose, upholstery/stair turbo brush and the boost button to give a deeper clean.

There is also an X5 Extra Eco... this is exactly the same as the mid level X4 other than it has a slightly wider cleaning path.

I hope I've summed that up clear enough LOL

Anyway, I've got to point out that given the X4 Pet is their highest spec machine in terms of extras, it does NOT come with a dusting brush!!! You'd think given the X4 Extra comes with one, the higher priced and overall higher spec Pet model would have one too.... but apparently not.

So back I went to John Lewis to buy the additional Sebo dusting brush with handle storage clamp.

I'm not going to do a hugely in depth review.... The automatic height system works well. Seems to adjust a lot better than the last X series machine I bought. Build quality is superb. The stair hose is more than long enough - TAKE NOTE MR DYSON!!!!!

It's the boost feature I want to show. In normal use it isn't really needed. And I've not found the need to use it in our house as the carpets never get that dirty. However I've been to clean for my grandparents today and the vacuuming was long overdue (they struggle with it due to age).... This is where the boost feature came into a world of its own as it allowed me to give the carpets a much more thorough clean.

Basically the boost feature is something you'd use on really trodden down carpets with lots of ground in dirt. Or maybe a particularly soiled entrance rug ect

It lowers the floor head a lot more than normal, however it is NOT an override for the automatic height adjustment. This still continues to monitor and adjust as needed, but at a greatly reduced level.... I've made two videos to hopefully give a clearer idea of how it works. They should be in ultra hi def 4K if your device will support 4K playback.....

Thanks Matt, I've been curious about how the boost feature worked. I figured it couldn't lower completely as it would cause excess strain on the belt. Very interesting, thanks for sharing!

I think it lowers it a substantial amount.... certainly enough for the machine to feel heavier. You can also feel it sticking to flatter carpets as it is creating a seal between the base of the machine and the floor covering.

Defiantly not a gimmick and is a feature that will be very handy on heavily soiled flooring :)

It does revert back to 'normal' mode when you turn the machine off and back on again though.

Its defiantly a feature worth having.... So when will you be upgrading Chris? haha

I'm also a fan of the new soft start motors. Thats a nice touch too!

Nice videos, Matt. I believe Roger has also bought one and has also done a video on it.

I didn't buy one of those - instead I plucked for a second hand SM1 upright with the manual height adjustment control and couldn't be happier. I had an SM2 before that but it had a serious rumbling problem.

These new SEBO X uprights also have LED's compared to older bulbs. They seem to react more quickly judged by your videos.

Yes I did think it was reacting quicker and adjusting with more accuracy but wasn't too sure as its a long time since I last had an Auto X machine.... plus all our carpets have changed since too.

I've just found my old thread on the last Sebo X machine I had..... The older style X4 Pet bought on 18/11/2012.

I sold it when I bought my Kirby.

Old machine was 1300w motor I think and DID come with a dusting brush.

New machine is 1100w, has the boost button but does not come supplied with the dusting brush.

I really do think it is an inexcusable cost cutting exercise by Sebo by not supplying their latest version with the brush.

I did strongly consider buying the commercial Evolution model, but we have a lot of hard flooring and I wasn't sure it would be suited.... at least the X machines have the little sealing strip behind the brush to prevent kick back of dirt

Spot the difference!

Lol, I don't think I will. As you know, we've got the same carpet all the way through the house so it's not really a feature I feel the need to have. I'd have considered one at my old place though when I had different thickness of carpet in different rooms.

Great pictures, overview and videos matt8808 on your new SEBO purchase. Great to hear you like the new boost feature and interesting to hear and see more about how the boost button works. Great to see the automatic function still works when the boost button is pressed/activated but not as much. Fab new feature be interesting if it will feature on the rest of the X series especially come 900 watt limit next year!

I'm told SEBO didn't want to increase the price of the X4 Pet Eco when they added the boost button so removed the dusting brush to keep the price the same. Suppose for an additional increase of say £10 they could of kept it! My Mum has just got a X4 Pro Eco (Indepandent Store) which is the same spec as the Extra or John Lewis Excel but that doesn't come with a dusting brush either. Need to get her one! I see you purchased one was it the larger dusting brush?

How do you find the 1100 watt motor compared to the older 1300 watt version? Having used my Mum's I can't see any difference personally especially compared to my older 1300 watt Felix. I only ask as some of the reviews I read on Amazon and other sites some owners of the new X series Eco models comment they are not as powerful as their older machines!!!

Having not used an X series much until I advised my Mum to get one and used hers I love using it and would love one! Not sure which model I would go for, do like the Dark Grey X4 Pro Eco and the Black X4 Pet Eco Boost!

I wonder if I have time to go get hit by a bus 😉 Before finish reading this thread. Lol

In all seriousness, it seems a very good feature but, still, Sebo need to pull their finger out and make a manual height model of the X series, although there is Felix, yes, I prefer a proper upright and the X series is actually nice to use when it makes full clntact with the carpet and, well, on a regular X series, there is more chance of snow in the shariah desert.

Maraboutsebo - yes its the larger dusting brush I got. Genuine sebo part obviously :)

In regards to power, i haven't noticed any difference. And its not like 200w is going to make any difference on an upright OMHO

And Alex.... I'm back at work tomorrow so I'll come run you over with my bus if you like? ;)

It's funny, some brands/models it makes a huge difference. For example, there is a noticeable difference between the earlier 650w and later 700w Panasonic 40 series and again the 700w and 900w of the later 40 and 50 series, but there's absolutely no noticeable suction difference between the 1150w Sebo X1.1 and 1300w X4.

Alex, I thought you were going to turn a new leaf?

Looks like you haven't really learnt your lesson.

And there is a manual adjuster SEBO X - its just under another name in the UK: Task Ensign SM1 - has a 1300 watt motor.

Dont forget SEBO aren't a purely domestic vacuum company though. They go by their name = SEmigewerbliche BOdenpflege, German for semi-commercial floor care. They will always develop commercial uprights over the domestic market.

A leopard never changes its spots, Nar.

Sounds to me like Matt is perfectly happy with his new Sebo so surely that's the most important thing, right? One happy customer.

If you don't like em, don't buy one. A more positive spin won't kill you, Alex. Unfortunately.

It isn't that I don't like them, I don't like how they perform, it doesn't dig deep enough into the pile. I hate the constant adjusting it is rather displeasing. I don't think they are exactly bad cleaners over all. I have thought about getting the boost model but is rather an inconvenience to press that button all the time because I know I would, so, like I said, I wpuld rather have a manual height adjustment on one of the domestic models.
It does look rather striking that X4 boost, I must say. Very nice Matt.

The beauty of SEBO is that you can also buy the more commercially based BS36 if you're really after manual height adjustment, plus you'll get a metal brush roll bar with slide in strips like an old Hoover classic upright. That way you'll get the manual height adjustment, commercial quality AND a similar hose and wand set up like the X series. Of course they use different bags but the SEBO 370 also uses the same X series dust bags, as does the newer Evolution model.

Thanks Matt8808 for confirming which dusting brush you purchased. Might get the larger one for my Mum's X4 Pro. Why of course it has to be a genuine one :)

Thanks for confirming about the power, didn't think there would be a noticeable difference just thought I'd ask from the general pubic reviews I've read!

I had the large dusting brush but found it too large for most dusting. I much prefer the regular one, and being triangluar it's great for getting into corners.

re; hit by bus

Cool mates! Skin bus, just be safe, and don't let anyone throw you under a bus, such as at work, etc.
I saw a film that was made in Nottingham on Netflix. "Weekend" Two college blokes met and fell for each other but one was going to Oregon to study.

Mike, sorry to sound dense, but what does that have to do with Alex being hit by Matt's bus? Alex was the one who mentioned being hit by bus rather than reading this thread, Matt was pointing out that, as he is a bus driver, that can be arranged.

Not really sure what the "Your first always holds a special place in your heart." has to do with it unless Alex and Matt are having some kind of affair which I highly doubt.

Chris, guy's,

I wasn't meaning to offend anyone. Just reading between the lines of "wouldn't mind being hit by your bus".
They are still young, and very virile in that area of course, as in "many" to keep me occupied?
Now there are also cam sites like cam4, etc. so who knows, and who cares? But they are a safe outlet for pent up verilty, not that I ever indulge, but hey, once in a while, I do watch, if the men are easy on the eyes, and I can see a face.
I was young once, and even I'm feeling rather frisky myself, having gotten a good report on my recent tests from my doctor.
Peace, and good fortunes to all!

Yes.. well.. whatever

The smaller triangular brush has always annoyed me. Even with the k1 700 or E1-700 watt cylinders, the smaller triangular brush bristles always want to get sucked in. Not a problem for the bigger one which actually works better. I also find the dusting brush from the D2 series great for the K and E series vacs. If the neck was a bit longer it could be used on the X series.

Sebofan: I agree, all be it, it is a nice design the triangular brush, bit similar to the dusting brush on the Electrolux Contours.

WELL.....

I wasn't aware I'd even stated my sexuality in this thread...... It's rather rude to just 'assume'.

Where Chris uses his vacuum cleaner to actually dust, I use a microfibre cloth. I couldn't be bothered faffing on with the vacuum THAT much. I'm not saying how Chris dusts is wrong, before he starts having a hissy fit (I know how house proud he is) but each to their own. Quick and easy does it for me. The most I do with the vacuum dusting brush is skirting boards, cobwebs, door mouldings ect so it doesn't see a huge amount of use and the larger brush is ideal. By Chris' standards I'm a filthy pig ;) Or should that be horse Chris? NAYYYYYY

I also found the same issue with the brushes getting sucked in on the smaller one Nar.

I've had the machine about two weeks now? And only used the brush twice. Once to dust skirting boards and the second occasion I was cleaning out the filter housing on the tumble dryer.

Yes, it's a light switch, but the are dimmers so you turn them and it adjusts the brightness off the light, surely you have those as well as standard on off light switches.

Yes Alex,

we have those types of dimmers. Some are push on/off, some turn full left for off.
Sliding dimmers are also available, and finger touch dimmers.
You can even wire in a 24 volt DC transformer such as a doorbell has and equip an entire home with low voltage remote controlled lighting. I've only seen it in more prestigious homes, as the cost nearly doubles. You still need 120/220 volt AC current for appliances, but it may pay for itself in power savings over several years.

Yep, hat one I have there has the push on off with the revolving knob to dim the light, we also have the sensor type and the ones that you turn right to th left and they "click" off...Not sure if we have slider ones though.
