Hi all. Newbie here. I found a Hoover Constellation model 858 at a tag sale. Needed cleaning, works, needs a new filter. The one condition issue is that the little 'buttons' on the telescopic wand and the floor attachment are missing (the pieces that keep the plastic latches in place. Any suggestions on an easy fix for this? Thanks!!!

lookup button lock replacement. It is a "C" shaped spring steel with a button on it.

Slips inside the metal wands.

Many online places have them.

wand buttons

Is it the latch end in picture 1, or the button in picture 2. If it is the button, Hoover made a replacement that could be riveted in. Part # 12763AG. If the hole in the wand is egged out, this rivet may not work. To install, you would have to clamp a large metal rod or tube in a vise. It must fit inside the wand. You would then hammer on the top of the rivet, the rivet hitting the tube or rod would expand the bottom of the rivet inside the wand. This rivet is no longer available, and is difficult to install. It might be easier to find a used wand.

Thanks for all the information! It actually needs a button and a rivet. I'm going to take it to a couple of local vacuum repair places and see what they think. I may end up just getting a new wand.

Thanks again!!!!!

They are so well-built.

They'll last forever, almost. The pins, etc, sometimes would snap after a lot of use or abuse.

After I started looking at what needs replaced I realized I could make a temporary fix with a screw, so that will do me for right now. I do need to get a couple of the round (exhaust?) filters. 3rdGenVacGuy, I'm in the Akron area. :)
