Even if the vacuum cleaners from Tacony (Riccar, Simplicity, Fuller brush, CleanMax, Maytag and Carpetpro) are good, there's something that worries me and it has to do with the compatibility of accessories with the different kinds of models. It's like, there are attachments for the Prima/Wonder canisters, others for other kinds of canisters, others for the clean air R20/S20 models, others for the older clean air models, others for the tandem air models and others (the 1 1/4" kinds to be precise) for the extension hoses that are to be connected to the uprights. I find that it's unnecessary that if we own a Symmetry or a Vibrance, we would have to use, for an example, a crevice tool for the onboard hose and a different one for the extension hose.

Sebo has simplified things by making it so that we can use the same non-electric friction fit attachments on all models, whether that model's a Felix or a part of the X series, G series, K series, D series, C series, Mechanical 300/350 series or Comfort 370/470 series, and we don't need another set of tools if we use the extension hose.

So my idea, for Tacony, is that they should make only one kind of compact turbine brush and introduce several different adapters for different kinds of vacuum models so that the same mini-turbo head and other accessories would be able to fit with all the different models of Riccar and Simplicity (and other brands related to Tacony) and so that the Floor IT and the Doom For Your Broom nozzles could be used with the uprights. And all of the future models of Riccar and Simplicity should be having hoses with the same diameter.

Gosh, didn't they have that in place already?

Tacony has different size necks on their wow floor tools, which allow them to be used on all models that accept attachments. There are also adapters to allow vacs like the Wonder or Prima to use standard 1 1/4 inch tools. Had a lady call about a using an Electrolux flip over rug/floor tools with a Prima. We have an adapter that goes between the lux tool and Prima wand to allow for just that situation.

Moderneezer,

I would have to agree, so many companies now use different tools for different machines. Why not make them all standard for that company? I would think the cost savings alone would be enough to make the change. I don't want to be bothered with adapters and such...just something else to keep track of. Most consumers would be the same. Some of the Lux machines have to use the adapter to use some but not all of the tools...crazy...go back to metal wands in the standard shape..

Of course many of today's companies are throw away machines lasting about a year and then the consumer is forced to a new purchase.

I was hoping Kirby would add a good bare floor tool in the new model...but alas they did not. So I use the bare floor tool from my Buster B..it is the right color and a great tool.

Raymond, just so you know, there is an adaptor available to convert 35 mm European size attachments to fit 32 mm North American size hose & wands. It is a plastic ring, you insert it into the tool & then fit your hose or wand into it. I have one of these adapters myself so I can use certain Miele attachments with some other brands I own. No point in owning 2 of each size of an attachment just so it can fit ALL your vacuums, if an adapter is available!

www.centeccommercialvacuums.com/c...

In Tacony's defense here, they were up until the Riccar Prima & Simplicity Wonder were introduced using only 2 different tool sizes....one for the uprights, one for the canisters. And the 35 mm size for the Wonder & Prima were introduced to improve performance. Plus it seems that's the direction canister vacuums are going these days.

Hey Dysonman1, I checked into the Riccar website and it says that the Soft Sweep floor tool can get connected to a clean air upright but doesn't specify whether these uprights are of the R20 or the classic bodied kinds. I already know that there's an adapter that allows us to use 1 1/4" tools on a Prima or Wonder canister, but are there really other adapters for other models (apart from the one for the RC1100 model)? Would the adapter which is bundled with the clean air attachment kit (TCA-15) accept the 1 1/4" accessories?

And Vinvac, I know another example of a brand that makes cleaners with different compatible accessories and that is Kenmore. There are certain canisters that have wands going through extra wide dusting brushes and both the brushes and these wands get attached to the hoses while a power head is connected to the wand, and I don't know of an adapter that lets us use 1 1/4" tools with these canisters. Should I steer clear of these models?

I really think that adapters simplify things.

There is an adapter to allow the hose or wand of the S20 or R20 series to be used with standard fit attachments, as well as a wow tool with a narrow neck to be used on the wand of the R20 or S20 series (comes packed with an extra wand in a box).

adapters and sizes

The Prima uses the 35 MM size, which is the same as Miele. My Lindhaus HF6 also uses this size, I think that's the standard size in Europe. Adapters are widely available to convert these hose ends to 32 MM, also known as the 1-1/4 size that is common in the United States and is also used by most central vacuums. Sebo is a bit interesting, their hose size is slightly larger than 35 mm, I discovered this when I bought my Airbelt D1, I prefer to use the standard size attachments, but I was able to get an adapter that converts the hose size. As much as I like the Sebo canisters, I would have probably returned it if I could not have used my attachment collection with it. Electrolux is another company that uses nonstandard hose ends, the end is kind of square shaped. An adapter is available that lets you use standard attachments for this size. The Aerus guardian platinum also uses an unusual hose end, I think it's similar to what Tristar uses. Finally, the newer Kenmore hose is similar to the end used on Electrolux hoses, but it is slightly different so the Electrolux adapter will not work. I'm not aware of any adapter for the Kenmore hoses. I don't own any Dyson vacuums, but I've heard that they also use different size attachments on different models.

Mike, I own a recent model Kenmore Elegance canister (Kenmore Progressive in America) with the newer style wands that has the dusting brush on the hose. Picked it up for cheap last summer. I have found that a Miele metal hose adapter works just fine, all you have to do is wrap some clear packer's tape on the outside to increase the diameter a bit to make it fit snugly inside the hose. A generic Sebo metal adapter would also work too, but I didn't bother with one of those since I already have a couple of genuine Sebo adapters & don't use it as much anyways.

Dysonman1, thanks for the info, and I think there should be an update on the Riccar and Simplicity websites by displaying more kinds of adapters in the shopping list and adding more info on the use of Wow tools on uprights.

And N0oxy, did you mean to tell me that accessories for the Miele's and the ones for the Prima canisters are interchangeable with each other?

miele and prima attachments

I have not tried this, but in theory, yes. Attachments for the prima and Miele attachments should be interchangeable. Actually, I have a question for anyone who has used a Miele with an electric hose. Does it have the standard female electric connector at the end of the hose that many other canisters have? It's a two prong mini female connector. I had heard that the Miele electric connector was a bit different. I've done some experiments mixing different power heads with different canisters, and this is possible as long as the standard connector is used.

That's got to be true, that power nozzles can get connected to different branded canisters if the connectors matched. Now as for the female plug connectors on hoses for Miele's, Kenmore's, canisters of other brands and central vacuums, would someone show me pictures of these connectors so that other people and I could compare the differences?

connector shape-

vintage Electrolux is rectangular shaped, central vac is similar in size to Electrolux, but has two corner notches, Miele is shaped like a banana, and Kenmore is a trapezoid. I'll see if I can find some pics.

connector shapes and mixing power nozzles

This mainly applies to nozzles that use a pig tail cord. The plug fits in to the central vacuum electric hose that I have along with my Aerus classic, Perfect Canister, Riccar Prima, and Panasonic mc-cg902.
The newer Kenmore's as well as recent Electrolux models use different connectors so you are limited to power nozzles that will fit those connectors.

Tacony is a more of a hands on, in person company. They have numerous outlets in addition to the museum of which to talk and meet with a physical human that can help you get exactly what you are looking for. They have attachments and adapters for all kinds of units!!

The Riccar and Simplicity websites give a general idea of what is available but for your exact needs it may be more helpful to contact via email or phone or your closest distributor to tailor your needs and what you're seeking. Tacony has new models coming out at various times with tweaks over some previous stuff. While it is unusual to see such variety of tools it's also kind of nice that Tacony took the time to give each machine it's own individual character and a different designed tool incase a consumer doesn't like a design that's on another machine!!

No I do not work for or have any connection with Tacony. But knowing Tom, I contacted him recently when I acquired a Simplicity Verve canister vacuum. I sent the vacuum to him at the museum and he with the Tacony team gave it a thorough servicing to make sure it was running to peak and then he shipped it back to me. Such wonderful service!!
