Saw this at my thrift store today and I wonder who knows more information about this model. Lewyt made some vintage vacuums but I didn't know they made this model too, there is a regina version of this which I think was made by Oreck as far as I know. I can tell this is a direct copy from one of the Panasonic Performance Plus models in the mid 90's. I didn't got it because I'm not interested in it except I could go back and get it if anyone who wants this from me I could sell to you just by paying how much I paid from the thrift store plus shipping (if it's still there). It works overall but the belt snapped and it has every attachment on it plus both head lights work (yes it uses dual headlights). I can tell it came from a old widow's house because it hardly got much use out if it, just dusty and some cob webs.

Not a real Lewyt...

The Lewyt company went bankrupt in the early '60s after Health-Mor, the parent company of Filter Queen, sued them and won a huge settlement for patent infringement. The company struggled through the '60s but never recovered from that loss and was out of business by the end of the decade. My guess is somebody must have either bought rights to the name or just put out a line of Lewyt branded vacuum cleaners in an effort to claim ownership of the presumably abandoned brand name.

These were sold in the UK under Dirt Devil Europe brands -not the same company as the U.S - back in 2001. As you can see both bagless and bagged were available. I recall using one and it was very heavy to push. The version in the U.S might be different.

Thanks for the info, I always knew it looked like a Dirt Devil in the first place which I was glad I didn't get because I honestly do not like Dirt devil except the older models.

Yes but the Dirt Devil company in the U.S was DIFFERENT to the Dirt Devil brand in the UK and Europe. Only U.S products we got was the Broomy, Dirt Devil U.S Handy, a bagged cylinder vac and the Deluxe bagged upright.
