So, when I have it running, there can be a loud rattle. It sounds like it's maybe metal peices not fitting togeather exactly right and the vibrations are rattling them against each other. If there's a little pressure put on the head to the floor, it seems to get somewhat quieter. BUT, I took the head off, and tried to turn the motor manually and there is a spot where the motor gets tight. But once it's running and I power it down, the motor quietly, smoothly, and slowly winds down. Can anyone help me with this?

I have heard a similar sound on a newly-acquired 513.  It's like a ringing almost, but yeah, it sounds like the inner metal fan is hitting something, only not that frequent and it doesn't sound too too loud.  I would think metal hitting metal would be louder, more frequent, etc.

So yeah, I'm no help, but I will follow this to see what answers may come!

Are the hooks on the back of the nozzle that hook over the attachment bar intact?
Is one of the hooks worn or broken?
Is the nozzle solidly on the front of the motor?

Does the unit still make the noise with the nozzle off?

Is there something that the cooling fan could be scraping on in the motor compartment?
Is one of the blades on the cooling fan bent?
