Found this at Goodwill for $4.99, I was going to just salvage parts off of it. Then started checking for a lower bearing to rebuild the motor for my Hoover 29 or 63. I got the last lower bearing that HESCO had. I started looking at how the lower bearing is put together and realized that once you get the bearing housing apart the bearing comes right out. I then cross referenced the bearing and had a replacement in my stock of bearings. Reassembled the bearing housing with a brand new bearing, cleaned out all the fuzz from the motor and put the motor back together. The motor just purrs now. Took the bearings out of the brush roll and cleaned and greased them, then put them back in. Cleaned the bag the other day and put that back on.

Very nice find!!!
I got one from the convention last year. I just bought a pop riveter for the purpose of getting those bearings in and out for proper service. I'll give you a tip that ESSCO told me. If you ever need carbon brushes for any of these models all the way through the entire Convertible line just order Kirby Classic through Legend series carbon brushes. I ordered 30 set but have not installed any yet to see if they work. If this is true we all should stock up on them for our Hoovers before they too are discontinued.

Rather than pop rivet the bearing back in place I used 10 24 X 3/8" brass screws and brass nuts to hold the bearing plate in. That way I don't have to drill out the rivets again if I have to service the bearings. I also got a set of new carbon brushes from Ace Hardware, they still carry them.

I got the brass screws and nuts at True Value Hardware, I'm pretty sure they have them at Ace Hardware as well since they use the same supplier.
