I need to do serious shopping of the new canister model vacs. I generally glaze over and ignore the newer stuff. I'm a fan of stuff from the 70s and 80s. But there are some new ideas.
One of the features I've noticed is the change in lighting. LEDs instead of a single incandescent bulb. Also, wand lights.
I'm wondering if anyone has these features and how they found them.
The wand light seems like a good idea as it would allow light when using ANY tool attached to the wand, rather than be restricted to just the power nozzle. The LED on the PN seems like a good idea as it's compact allowing for a shorter PN instead of the usual "light bump" in the top that most pns need to accomodate the addition of a bulb and socket. | ||

LED's use less energy and last longer. I first saw them used by Shark, then Miele. The Alize has it in the hand grip. It uses batteries. I have a rather odd Beam power nozzle from the late 90's. It's hunter green with a soft bristle only brush roll for delicate rugs, and has a fluorescent light. | ||

I purchased a Kenmore Progressive model about ten years ago, big sale and on plastic of course! Consumers top pick! It had some cool features my Sliverado did not, give it a go, the Lux was heavy and getting old. Well that light feature lasted about 6 weeks! 2 months later the powered upholstery tool quit! I liked the long hose and long cord, it was kind of quiet, powered controls on the handle? Sure. I felt the ability to turn off the power nozzle would be cool, not so much help as it didn't clean bare floors well at all. Power was always on high, not sure why, but air flow was not great, with the new hepa bags! So, it went bye bye in a year, a friend wanted it, I noticed she didn't use it long either! Oh, the Silverado is still going!

This one was weird sounding from the start! I got the machine, partly due to the fact we had a Sears service center right here! Took it out? OH it closed. Crapola.I had not noticed problems with the ones I had on Luxs in the past, honest.That Kenmore just always sounded constipated! It had to have something wrong in the motor, or fans or ducting.

Can't stand LEDs I have autism, explains the vacuum obsession, and the horrid blue LED light bothers my eyes. Yes, they're efficient and better in every other way, but I just cannot stand them. It gets harder every day to avoid the blasted things. | ||

Agree. I know they use much less energy, but.... I'm part blind as it is. I can't have things that make it harder to see.
Prince- Does it have an LED or standard bulb? What is it's power source?
BTW- Every time I see a Eureka "turtle", I think of you. I have 3 now. 2 blue and an orange. | ||

I went to the Sears website yesterday, determined to learn about the latest crap that's being sold.
I wasn't inspired but did find that one could buy a canister with power nozzle for like $118. It didn't have a wand light, but it did have a pn light.
After about 2 minutes, I had to go recover by viewing my collection. (sigh).
It doesn't seem like a lot of the vacs have wand lights, like its just the most expensive models.
And they all have gray trim. WTH ? Thats so..... ughhhhhh. | ||

To my knowledge Kenmore is the only brand that has the wand light!
I'll be honest, in my experience of using one, it was so dim, and far up the wand, I did not find their wand light very useful!! Kenmore lately in the past few years has had many durability issues with their fancy new wand systems and electric power boards going bad or the power nozzle not receiving power. I think that the newest Kenmore Elite canisters with the Plush nozzle may be their best but it has not been on the market long and may have various issues go wrong with it as well. Honestly if I was to recommend a Kenmore to you it would be the either the 2 baseline units: lime green or tangerine. Those two units have the older style universal fit wand systems which fit other manufacturer tools and also are more durable. The bulky handle hose found on many Kenmore canisters is actually very comfortable I thought to hold when pushing the power nozzle. But I've seen tons of reviews of issues with the wands, hose and/or power nozzle having electrical issues. Also the attachments for these hoses are limited to what is included with the machine and most are so bulky and wierd shaped, they leave a user wishing of more attachment options! Your better off with a Panasonic branded canister. They are not much higher in price but durability will be better and you can get better service through your vac shop that you purchased it from rather than Sears! If you can afford to step up from Panasonic look to Riccar, Simplicity. Also Fuller Brush is made by Tacony- the same manufacturer as Riccar/ Simplicity and I've heard great things about their recent red colored upright and canister models. | ||
