Today I got a Kirby Sentria at a pawn shop for $100. It's in good working condition, it just needs some cleaning.

Here is a picture of the kirbys at the pawn shop below

Really nice Sentria Thomas.

I have one just like it. Mine was made in 2009 and I love it. It's a great workhorse. I don't have any particular Kirby that I use as a daily driver. I rotate using them so they all get used. This week it's my Kirby Heritage II Legend.

If you live in Columbus it should be a short drive away. It's lev's pawn shop located near bexley.

Here's the address

3446 E Main St, Columbus, OH 43213
Lev's Pawn Shop

Please note, some Kirbys there are dirty and nasty but others are pretty clean. The prices are between $100 and $250

The best part is you could possibly trade your G3 for one of those Kirbys possibly for no money. It depends though.

Sounds like a good place to look for later model units? After posting pics and getting help with my machine, I have 3 friends now saying they wish they had one of them! Helps I guess not thinking about spending over a grand.

newer, EXPENSIVE cleaners ending up in a place like that. There are thousands of $$$ worth of "Kirby" on that shelf. Wow!

The newer, expensive machines end up in pawn shops because they have enough value left to loan on.  Which btw was 1/2 of the retail they are asking, so you can always negotiate that sum down.   If they are asking $250, you can offer them $200 cash on the table and the will usually take it.

When I see newer machines in the Pawn, it always makes me think from the financial (repo guy) side of it.  I bet there is a finance company looking for that machine somewhere.

I forgot to mention that my Sentria was originally $200 but I couldn't afford paying that as I brought $120. I talked to the guy at the counter, I offered to pay $110 plus the $5 tax. He was nice and said I could pay $94.95 plus the $5 tax so I got a great deal.

I also got a sentria from a local pawn sop, only needed a belt and a bag. It works fantastic.

How long till the Avalir's are just lined up in pawn shops that those Sentria 1 and 2's are? Many owners feel they were duped in buying the machine (for one reason or another), and find they don't care for it after a year or two. For sure, there are loan companies looking for those cleaners. It would be hard to imagine someone actually paying $1500 for one of them, to pawn them for $50 (the pawn shop has to mark them up to market them).

Not knocking any machine

Just stating experience, Just the nature of the borrower.

Any item that is priced in the "finance" area the banks, finance companies will see a portion back.

I know when I worked for Kirby many models ago, United Retail Finance (Kirby's own finance arm owned by SF) bought the paper from our distributor with a six month right of recourse.  In other words if the loan went sour within the first six months the Distributor/Dealer were on the hook for finding, repossessing/recovering and repaying the finance company.    We usually took the credit info, and sold it to one of the local banks in the small town if they were interested.  Surprisingly many of the in-home purchasers wrote a check for BIF (Balance in Full) at the time of purchase.

like I said that was a Generation ago (Model wise).  Later when I moved to the Finance side and was a loan officer, and collector in meetings the oft discussed was "Don't loan on a Rainbow Vacuum."  "You will always get them back, and you can't sell the damned things."

I don't know if Rainbow has their own finance arm, but Credit Unions don't use them as collateral.  The member has to qualify for that size signature loan to borrow for the purchase.  In any case you will find fairly new machines in Pawn shops, usually in terrible condition.

I don't know because that picture of the pawn shop was taken two weeks before I went and the Sentria II was gone when I went but there were more sentrias, more diamonds, and a Gsix as well.
