Hi I got a Dyson DCO7 last year from someone on Ebay and it had been working fine also I changed the filters and cleaned the cyclone so It was feeling all like new . But then recently I turned it on and it just makes this really loud noise which I have never heard before. I have checked for blockages and it looks all fine everything does. Does anyone maybe know why. I think it may be the motor is old. If so I will change it.

Anyways, is the Dyson making a ratchety loud grinding noise? Does it have a brightly coloured knob on the front of the vacuum on it's cleaner head?

If so, this indicates that the brushbar underneath the vacuum is jammed and needs o be clear of any threads, hair and string and it's best to get a coin to turn the brightly coloured plastic screws at a quarter of a turn and the soleplate comes off. Turn the brushbar by hand to see if it spins.

Make sure the soleplate is fitted correctly and o be sure, the bristles should protude the soleplate evenly.

Brushroll Clutch

 If it's a loud ratcheting, it is likely a bad brushroll clutch. They can be rebuilt with new belts, but that is a pain in the butt and if it's ratcheting it just needs to be replaced. Or it could be the motor, if it's more of a screaming sound. Let us know how it goes!

If it's not the brush-bar....there's a couple other options.

If you can- check inside the root cyclones- they were notorious for blocking at the non-pointy end.

Also check the motor bleed valve- if the spring weakens they can partially open, causing a whistling sound.
