Arlee and I threw a party last weekend with about 30 people in attendance. I was obliged to hide away all of my vacuum cleaners (a: there wouldn't be room for our guests, and b: Arlee demanded I do so hahaha!). I did leave one out on display, a Model XXX with the floor polisher. I arranged it in a fairly obvious location, right next to the doorway leading from the kitchen to the hallway.

Do you know ... not ONE SINGLE PERSON commented on it! I was sure -somebody- would say, "Oh, look at that beautiful old vacuum cleaner!" Nope. Not a word. I guess it may partly be due to the fact that pretty much everyone who was here knows I collect vintage vacuum cleaners, but still ... my poor XXX didn't receive a single compliment and she seemed quite forlorn about it! cry

A shame. How could one NOT notice!!??

Perhaps they were involved in the nuptials, etc.

I have a Convertible, model 67 permanantly on display in the formal dinigroom.  EVERYONE now seems to thing it is just part of the decor........as well it should be!

Relax, Charles.  I, to, know what it's like to be un-noticed. Sometimes, I'm plain ignored.  Depending on the person,  it doesn't bother me at all. Some people hate, above all things, to be ignored.

So, enjoy your ELECTROLUX!  See,  in honor of the occasion,  I spelled a "different species" in all caps!  I know that the Hoover thing upsets some so.

 Nice vac!

 John

 Here's some home decor..........

Noticed?

Me either! maybe they did, but think I'm strange. maybe I think those who collect tea cups or beer steins are strange.
Maybe they thought it was a sausage stuffer because it is made of metal?

Hi Charles:

Could it be that the guests already know you collect vacuum cleaners and put the importance on you and Arlee? That's the way it should be, 30+ years together IS a big deal, and not that the vacuums aren't important, the two of you are, or should be more so! Just a thought.

Hugs to both of you,

Alex Taber.

Congrats!!! And as for your friends….most people miss the obvious (to us anyway) !! Anytime I ask someone what kind of vacuum they had growing up etc etc, they just say DUH? I vacuumed. That all mom cared about. These are the same people that say all old cars look like a 57 chevy. I drive a 55 Olds and it looks nothing like a chevy, but have to endure the onslaught of the un-observant every time I drive it!!!
Just know we notice and appreciate the photos and that is why the site is here. It validates our passion.
Im sure someone noticed but was not sure what to say. Congrats on the nuptials if i read the emails responses correctly??

I could not hide my vacuums-you come into my place you will see MANY vacuums-that 'Lux is beautiful.Did you offer to show it and run the floor polisher tool on it?Probably the guests would have been more interested.Who knows they might have even polished your floors!Since the polisher tool is something the usual person doesn't know about that might have made the visitors interested.I also have many vacuums in my garage-folks here are right vacuums seem to multiply like clothes hangers in a closet!

RE 55 Olds!

A 55 Olds looks FAR BETTER than a 57 Chevrolet....Runs better too!

Oldsmobiles,

always ran better than Chevy's. Opposite distributor rotation, so better firing, better balanced, better breathing heads. A small displacement Olds V8 had the same bearing journal size as a 455.

It WAS my fathers Oldsmobile!

Remember the commercial: Its NOT your fathers Oldsmobile? Well this one is. 12,000 miles when i got it, 58,000 now. We are driving it to St Louis in a couple of months for the Lambda national meet. Anyone else going?
This pic is of a friend with his 60 Imperial and my car on a pretty day before Christmas. Took advantage of the temperature and washed the winter dust off of it!! The other is of a road trip to Tennessee last fall.
