I'm new here, I have been reading the boards for a little while and decided to join. I own a Hoover Dustette (Post WWII Brown Bag Model) A Kirby Classic I (My pride and Joy) and my Kenmore Magicord Canister.

I got my Kirby Classic a month ago from ebay. When it got here it was filthy. I was warned it was dirty in the auction but it was gross. I was to blinded by happiness to notice. I spent a whole night cleaning it, Then I go to use it and It gives me a terrible shock Up my arm. So I take it to get fixed and after a 40.00 tune up and a few days later I get it back in working condition. I polished and buffed it. Its in great condition. Tommorrow I am getting the hose end for it so I can use the attachments because the vacuum store gave me the hose end for the heritage and legend models. So I will probably be on the site and will be able to give advice.

Welcome! You have a good start to collecting with what you have now. Too bad about the electric shock. Electric shock is a phobia of mine so it is a big concern to me. Glad to see you got it fixed though.

Hi and welcome. Which Magicord Kenmore do you have. I have the blue one not too long and then all of a sudden I find the green one and the brown one. Funny thing is.. I remember when we moved here last year and were looking for a house we went to an open house and I saw a blue one in the basement of this house for sale. Hated the house, wanted their vac LOL . Not long afterwards a blue one shows up at the Habit store and I grabbed it.. I'm guessing it might have been the one I saw in that house for sale, very co-incidental.

Awesome vacs, welcome :). Haha I know what its like to kind of slow down passing people's trash just in case... And eech, I too have a fear of electric shock. Sorry to here bout that. I can do a decent amount of maintainance on my car, but changing the battery, even though its so simple, just freaks me out. I'm always afraid I'll put thing thing on the wrong terminal, or accidentally hit both terminals with the wrench...

Chris....

The shock you are getting may be very simply corrected. Examine the plug end closely! And perhaps change it!
I say this because it happened to me. I would get a funny weak low vibration kinda feeling in my entire arm when I would go to pick it up and I touched the handle. Little did I know that I wouldn't have gotten a full shock unless I was holding the metal handle and then touched another metal object with my right hand at the same time. In other words, I would have grounded myself. Luckily I never did that. I even went so far as to open the motor up because I thought a wire may have become loose and was touching the metal "wall" inside. But, everything checked out. It turned out that all I needed to do was change the plug. The rest of the cord was perfect and I couldn't see buying a new cord set. Give it a try and let me know! Just don't ground yourself.

It did get fixed, I have had the original cord on it after the repair so my guess it was the carbon brushes. Of course they probably needed to be changed because they were probably the originals. I am also picking up a hose end for it because I have a sanitronic hose with no hose end and I have the complete sanitronic attachments. I also have the buffer for the sanitronic but It doesnt work on the classic
