Need a belt for my Kirby Classic III. What is the proper part number for this? I was told 301291G from Kirby. Issue is all over the internet I see 301291S and a bunch of other part numbers.

It would depend on the brush roll currently in your nozzle.

If the brush roll currently in it has sleeve bearings (and also plastic threads around both ends), whether it's original or a replacement, order part no. 159056S.

Or, if it has the replacement brush roll with ball bearings and no plastic threads, then order part no. 301291G.

My

Classic III brush roll is wood, painted silver. It has white plastic caps were the threads are to adjust the roll height and its two screws. You can see where the belt wears in the center it's wood. It has a single row of bristles per side of the belt. I take it I need part 159056S? Don't know the bearing type. Probably sleeve bearings.

A picture of the brush roll would be nice for me to see, please.

I will submit you pictures of both the sleeve- and ball-bearing brush rolls.

I should also add that the sleeve-bearing brush rolls do not have instantly removable end caps and that both ends of the brush roll spin in unison because of it having an axle shaft inside; whereas the modern sleeve-bearing brush rolls do have removable end caps (black on one end and white on the other).
