I'm sure most are aware, but there's a problem with the newer Dyson Cinetic uprights. First, the dustbin has a shroud that constantly needs cleaning to maintain suction. Then after a year, the internal hose broke needing replacement. Once I contacted customer service, they were initially going to have me get a refurbished unit, but because I had so many issues and rude initial customer service experiences, they advised me they would send a brand new machine to me. They are sending me the ball multifloor and letting me keep all Cinetic attachments - best of both worlds!. I'm so pleased that they are doing the right thing in the situation! I'll still get a new 5 year warranty as well. The Cinetic is different in that Dyson claims it does not need filter maintenance, but cleaning that shroud daily was a much worse job and in a year the plastic on the house should not have broken. This Dyson Ball multi floor is lighter, has filters, and has excellent cleaning efficiency. I think this will be much more effective! Below are pictures of the Cinetic's shroud that has be be cleaned often, the faulty hose that had clips break off, and the machine I'm getting. I think it's important to promote not only bad customer service experiences, but also good ones.

I feel they should have put a pre-motor filter on this model. Sure, the new cyclones work well but they still let some very fine dust through. A washable filter would improve the lifespan of the motor and the post motor hepa filter. This model is like a Fantom in some ways. Those vacs would have lasted much longer with a pre-motor filter. Over time the fine dust will cause wear on the contact surfaces of the motor and you will end up with arching carbon brushes and high wear on bearings. I think these will pile up in vacuum shops waiting for repair. I like all the other Dyson's with pre-motor filters though!

Have had a Cinetic for much more than a year now. I tend to use it for shorter periods of time (about 10 minutes) each day. Five days a week. So, about an hour a week. I use it to clean the vestibule rugs at work. 150 people, several times per day, come from the gravel parking lot into the building, and leave tons of fine chat dust as well as rocks (they get into the bottom of tennis shoes). I have not had any fine dust leak past the cyclones, my shroud has not been cleaned - ever, and my hose hasn't broken. Granted, I very rarely use the hose for anything other than sucking up a larger rock that I don't want bouncing around the brush area.

Sorry to hear of your problems with your Cinetic.

 I also believe that every region's dirt/dust is not the same. I love the idea of the Cinetic, I just think it needs a bit of perfecting. Maybe different models for different US regions. I also really wish they would include some type of suction relief at the floor. It's an awesome machine but it didn't work for my needs.. I'm happy Dyson is doing the right thing. :)

I would have to disagree.

 Dyson are now fitting better quality Panasonic motors. How many DC07's have you seen with burnt out motors? Thousands.

How many DC25's have you seen with blown up motors? Hardly many. That's because the DC07 used a YDK motor and the DC25's all have Panasonic motors. The DC01's had pretty reliable motors though! They are currently using the YDK motors again in their DC41's and DC39's etc. They would go back to Panasonic if there's a lot of problems, but there's not many burnt out DC41's and DC39's compared to the number of DC08's etc because the radial root cyclone works better.

Even though the DC01 had a reliable motor, there was a reminder everytime the bin is removed. You can't miss it. On the DC04, 07/14/33 it doesn't remind you as well as the DC01. The DC01 machines were maintained by everyone! When I get a DC01 they either have washable filters in them or they have a filter which isn't as dirty as the ones in a typical raw DC07 (early model- the derooted ones hardly need the filter cleaning!)

Furthermore, the new Dysons have flaxible plastic. Yeah it's flexible and I hated it but I have been using my DC41 all the time and we have got used to it. It's not so bad! The plastic will NOT snap. We vacuum like twice a day everyday for a minimum of 10-15 mins.

Looking at the pre motor filter, there's only a bit of fine dust (a thin layer of it) which is because of the fantastic mesh screen and radial root cyclone technology. Not much hair goes onto the filter. Dyson did a great job fitting the mesh screen. It's like having a single cyclone vax where you HAVE to clean the filter (tap it/brush it etc) cos it's the bin and people would normally rinse it at their discretion. They don't need tho though if they don't overfill it!

I would be more confident to drop a Dyson DC75 Cinetic dorn a flight of stairs than any Dyson DC01-DC14 with an exception of the post 2005 models of any Dyson. That's because they stopped using the fragile fadable ABS plastic and now they use plastic that is shock absorbing. I would rather have a flexible plastic vacuum than one that acts like glass (If it bends slightly, it breaks).

The DC04 feels solid, yes. The wand can snap though if knocked over a handful of times, the carry handle is prone to breaking and the plastic overall is the same everywhere except for the brush housing, the bin insert, the bin and the valve pipe clips.

How many DC14's do you see that's broken physically vs a Dyson DC01-DC07? (Except the late derooted models with the reinforced handle).

The DC14 is pretty strong, but you do get the odd riped hose or broken tool (Tools are strong anyways and body's only break if something extreme happens) because the material used is MUCH MUCH MUCH better. The wands on DC14's are made of good plastic. I can bend it and it won't break. You don't drive with care when using a vacuum cleaner. People vacuum fast. Dyson mollycode their vacuums in their testing centre.

As for plastic wands, that's alright. I got used to it aswell. The wands will NOT dent so throw it around all you want. I wouln't be throwing a metal Dysonw and because it would't be telescopic anymore. The plastic is strong anyways and I have NEVER ever seen one snapped yet.

If you ask me, Dyson have improved. They have gone from one of the worst performing vacuumks (DC01/02/03) to one of the best vacuums you can get worldwide. I still like the old models but I just like both old and new. People have their opinions.

panasonic motors

 Wonder if the motor is similar to what is in the panasonic mc-cg902, I have that vacuum and it works well. Interestingly, you do smell a bit of the carbon when you first turn it on, I'm not sure if that's an indicator of motor quality, but none of my other vacuums do that. I'm not a fan of bagless vacuums, which is why I have never considered a Dyson, but it's good to know they are improving on the quality, I wonder how well the cinetic canister works.
