I am interested in purchasing a vintage Kirby. (Don't know too much about vacuums at all, except to say that I remember the ones that my Mother used to own, vintage one's, were much better than a lot of the ones I can buy today!!:(

The Kirby I am interested in is a Sanitronic (?) VII. Is this a good model, by anyone's opinion here?

Thank you so much.

Beatrice,

This Kirby should be a good investment for you, but the model you're referring to only has a single-speed motor. Otherwise, go for it if you want to.

Breatrice, I would look for a Dual Sanitronic 50 which was the first Kirby to have a 2 speed motor which switches automatically to high speed and gives better performance when using the DS50 with the hose attached.

The DS50 came out in 1965 which means it would be approx 1-3 years newer than the Sanitronic VII. There are usually some DS50's for sale on ebay.

In my opinion

You can't go wrong with either one.  I have both a Sanitronic VII and a DS-80, and I like them both a lot.
