If it were a DC motor, I'd say you connected the wires backwards but that shouldn't happen with an AC motor as polarity isn't constant. Still, you might try reversing the wires to the motor and see if that fixes it.

Lars,

You installed the field wire coils the wrong way. I direct your attention to the pictures on this page.

Your carbon brush wires are on the wrong carbon brush holders, put the bottom wire on tom and top on the bottom.

I tried that and it slowed down the motor alot could that also be that one of the connectors is half broken? But now it is running the right way.

Thanks,
Lars

Every Kirby...

I ever saw, the fan and motor shaft turns clockwise.  The motor shaft and fan should be spinning to the right when viewed from the front of the motor.

the fan blades suggests that it turns counter clockwise

Well, Like I said, I have never seen any Kirby that runs counter-clockwise. EVER! They all run Clockwise!

So turn it on and see if there is any suction thru the hose on the front or if the blower function works with the hose connected to the exhaust port. If the motor is running backward as you say, then there will be only a slight air movement through the hose when connected to the front of the machine.

p.s. If the motor is running backward, then the belt won't stay on. So if the belt stays on the motor shaft when the motor is running, then the motor is running in the correct direction.
