Cleaning for Thanksgiving |

The university I work for is closed the rest of the week for the Thanksgiving Holiday, so I decided to get the house in order for our big celebration tomorrow. It's one of the few times a year that all of the family gets together and we always have a GREAT time, and my wife really goes all out and shines in the kitchen!
Anyway, after using my Perfect C101 last week to vacuum, I decided to change it up yet again and use one of my Electrolux vacuums to clean with. I figured, since it was a special occasion, I needed to use a special vacuum. So I gave our house a good going over with my Electrolux UltraLux CE (Commemorative Edition). So I wouldn't risk damaging the woven hose, I changed it out for a vinyl hose, and I must say it performed beautifully! The motor is that nice soothing Electrolux "hum" I'm used to, not the much louder and more annoying sound the Perfect's motor has. It's the first time since I've owned it, that I've ever used it to clean the house with, but I'm super impressed! Anyone else using any "special" machines to get ready for Thanksgiving? Oh, and Happy Thanksgiving a day early everyone since I won't be on much tomorrow! | ||

Sorry Charles, not today! I was keeping up with my two little ones, so I was lucky to even be able to vacuum at all! My son thought it made a nice ride on toy, and my daughter looked at it and said, "daddy, this one is more shiny than the others"!
I'll probably use it again for after Thanksgiving cleanup, so maybe I can grab an action shot then!! | ||

Well, we never Host, but i had to clean the house anyways! I used the Silverado with a pn4a downstairs, and on the stairs (had a new bag, and i cleaned quite a bit), and the Diamond Jubilee Upstairs with the pn6b. Both did (as always) a tremendous job and never fail to impress me!

Cleaning for Thanksgiving.
While I'll admit I didn't plan to clean anything for Thanksgiving, last night was a rare experience and took me back to my childhood.
On Tuesday night the damper on my housemates fireplace wouldn't stay open due to the build-up of ash behind it, so I knew I'd be vacuuming it. Naturally I had to wait till yesterday for it to cool, but there was no question what vacuum I'd use, my daily driver, the very one that started my interest! But then I had a brainstorm, as I have several of the original blue/gray wrappers I decided to use a few of them. So there I was, vacuuming up the cooled ash with an Electrolux outfitted with an original model hose, wrapper and a complete LX. That machine was a real champ, I filled 3 wrappers which will go to period machines including the cut-away model LXI. Needless to say it was a great way to start Thanksgiving. | ||

If you've got enough ash behind the fireplace damper that it won't stay open, it needs more than to be vacuumed! You need to clean the chimney or have it professionally cleaned if You aren't comfortable doing it yourself. All that buildup will cause a chimney fire and that's not a pleasant experience, believe me. We had a chimney fire two winters ago and it was scary! Rumbling from the chimney, billowing black smoke and chunks of burning creosote flying out, and flames shooting from the top of the chimney. Could have been much much worse though, many house fires are started in the chimney each year.

That was done last year.
My housemate's a retired engineer, who worked for a major construction company, he designed the house, and his brother a retired bricklayer designed and built the fireplace. Actually there wasn't that much ash, but enough to require clean-out. I told him "forget the shop vac," and got the Electrolux. Did I have an ulterier motive? certainly, I wanted to see it eject. which it did, twice!

Here's a short demo video of the Hoover. For such an old machine, its motor sounds pretty good! Sorry for the poor quality, first vac video, and on a cell phone!

Thank you so much! It's the first time I've actually tried to do a video, so definitely an amateur at that! Both machines seem to be rather healthy, that hold Hoover is an absolute BEAST! It broke the belt right after I ended the video, so I put a brand new one on it and run it back over the rug just to put the nice carpet marks on it! The power nozzle on the commemorative seems a little weak to me, but it's not one I use a lot, in fact this is just the second run of that CE that I've actually cleaned the whole house with it. I have an Olympia One that I use quite often and I think the power nozzle on it must have a new motor in it, as it really sounds great and cleans very well. I do like my uprights, but for me, my main go-to machines are power-nozzle equipped canisters/tanks (unless I pull the old XXX, which is a straight-suction machine, out and run it!)
