I'll admit, I wasn't really a fan of these machines until I bought my Diamond on impulse from my local shop. After using it and seeing how versatile it was, I was hooked. No, they're not the lightest machines, or the most ergonomically pleasing to use, BUT they're super awesome cleaners and are absolute tanks. I realize these machines are a dime-a-dozen but because I've been bitten by the Kirby bug, and because I'm building my Kirby collection, I'm glad to have these!

I found this G3 and G4 on Craigslist this morning as I was perusing the local ads. Both need some major work and a good cleaning but the best part about them was they were free! I asked the guy and he said the G3 sounds like the motor bearings are probably failing as the motor is super loud, and the G4 turns off intermittently. I figured if I can't rescue them they can become parts vacs. The G3 is missing the headlight and cover, and bag topper. The G4 has a G3 trim bezel around the headlight and both plugs have been replaced. Both came with all the accessories and I got an extra set of accessories and another rug nozzle for the G4 which tells me he probably had another G4.

I'm gonna tear into these in the next few days as I have a few days off from work so it'll be perfect timing, only thing is I bought a new piano so my love for music may come before these :-P

Attached are a few pics with my other machines... gotta love the hum and air whoosh of the Heritage II! The G6 has been my daily driver for a year now so it's not as clean as it could be, but it's being used so I'm not too picky.

I wish I kept my Tradition I had but it smelled so bad and my better half silently got rid of when we moved.

Cheers,

Rich

Rich,

A new bag cloth could have solved that issue - regarding your Tradition. I'm about to get a Generation 3 soon and its bag is also smelly enough to get rid of.

BTW, Rich, I currently have three Kirbys in my collection: a Dual Sanitronic 80, a Classic Omega and my beloved Classic III.

Beautiful! I love the look of the older machines. My friend has a 510 that I'm trying to buy off him but he won't sell.

The Tradition I had was an ongoing work and progress and I kept telling him I'd fix the smell, but when we moved it was a perfect opportunity for it to get lost in the hustle and bustle. Oh well!

Very nice collection of Kirbys you have there! I bought a G5 a while back because I loved the colour and I wanted a newer Kirby. I ended up selling it though because I just didn't like using because it was so heavy. I do agree that it's a great deep cleaner though. The only Kirbys I have now are older ones. I have a 516 w/ all the accessories (thrift shop find), a Dual Sanitronic 80 which is my most recent resto (thrift shop), a Classic III that needs some work w/ some accessories (a friend found that one for me), and a Tradition (we had this one while I was growing up). Its in pieces being polished. I would really like to find a nice Legend II, I always liked that model too.

There's a brushroll there somewhere...

That brush roll looks like the one on my heritage that my ex-girlfriend never gave back. She sent it home with me one night last summer to fix it and I didn't return it until she asked for it back several weeks later. Shoulda kept it. Oh well. I've got three more Kirbys and two Electroluxes and I hardly ever vacuum.

Nice!

I love my generation Kirby's, especially my G3. I'm only a few away from a complete generation collection. Your G3 will look awesome when it's finished!
I attached a pic of mine - it's my favorite g-series look.

Nice G3! I've always like the minimalist look of that model.

Gotta pull them both apart and polish the heck outta them with my bench polisher. I might do the G6 as well seeing how it needs some love anyway, heck I might as well do all of them :-P

The motor in the G4 is arcing so I'm gonna pull it apart and put new carbon brushes in, once I get time again.
