Hi! New user here who has recently re-kindled my love for vacuums. As a child I was *obsessed* with the things and my parents allowed me to have a collection that would rival some of the regular users I admire here now. At one point they burnt them all in a fire due to space constraints and the desire to shift my interests from hoarding and repairing vacuums to doing more 'normal' things. Anyways...I bought a Kirby Classic III on Ebay(not in the greatest shape, but I disgress) and I *love* it. The problem is that I bent a hinge on the rug plate almost straight and when I saught help from someone with more tool experience than me, they bent it worse before giving up and slicing the messed up bit off with a dremel! They didn't ruin anything but the hinge that was already beyond repair after all the bending, but now my nozzle is in need of replacement pieces! I understand that the majority of parts for models as old as mine are discontinued, but is there anywhere I can get two rug plate hinges for a Classic III? I'd like to replace both, and if neccessary the rivets that hold them to the nozzle, but I can't find the parts! Thank you guys (and gals) for any information you can provide and I hope to be a fairly regular poster here as my collection re-grows. I'll add pictures of the carnage later when I can find my camera. :)

You and I are in the same boat. . . as are many other people.

The hinges on the Classic 1CR to Tradition 3CB nozzle castings must be bent back real careful. Practice makes perfect in this case.

In my case there's nothing left to bend! He sliced everything past the rug guard off with his dremel. :(

If I can't find a replacement hinge(s), then I'll just have to suck it up and buy a 'new' nozzle with (hopefully) good hinges to replace my nozzle.

Couldn't find my camera, but I did manage some crappy phone pictures of my poor Classic III. :(

The hinges are still available from Kirby part # 154769A then just pop rivet them in place. I think they are about $0.94 for a package of 4 hinges.

Thanks for confirming the part # for me! I'd seen a few places offering them, but wasn't sure if it was the right part. I'd have been flustered had I ordered something that didn't work. :)

I'll order them and as many other parts that need replacing, but weren't urgent enough for me to order yet. Eventually I'd like to restore my kirby to a like new look, but then I don't think I'll be able to use it as my only good vacuum anymore! The dilema...

Rivets

I'll second the counsel given on riveting the new part (was going to suggest that myself).

Also, I can't believe the lengths people (parents) go to trying to "rid" others of some "horrible" obsession! I'm sorry you had that experience (I hope they apologized for it, too)!

From one "nut" to another, welcome! Glad you're here!

Glad to be here! My parents can be a little extreme, but they're a lot better now than they were then. :)

I'm gonna order the new hinges, rivets, and a new belt lifter lens in a few days. I may order more if I find anything that needs replacing between now and then, but that's all I'm hoping to have to replace right now. :)

I'll post better pictures of my Kirby after a good clean up.
