I was so lucky to have been gifted this Landers Frary & Clark Whirlwind that the "Wrecking Crew" got from State Vacuum in Tampa Fl. on the recent Mini Meet at Terry's. I had to take it apart to see what nasty shape it was inside.

Imagine my disappointment

to see that it was in great shape! Where's the rust? Where's the mouse nest?

I did not even as much as...

blow off any dirt. There was none!!!!

I am so proud to be associated

with such a great group of people. And thanks very much for the machine! I'll have fun restoring this machine this Spring!

Phabulous!!

Crevington, that's where it went! An easy resto perchance? Especially after you remove the lamp cord remnant and put a nice heavy maroon cord on it.

Wow! What an interesting design for a vacuum! It looks like a pool filter on the inside! :-) I take it this is a more unusual and uncommon vacuum?

Other than some polishing and some overall cleaning, that baby is going to look great!!

Good luck!

Rick, after seeing that machine first hand I am really amazed to see how clean it is on the inside. They must have had fantastic filtration. Can't wait to see her when you work your magic on it.

I'm Curious--

How many vacuums did Landers, Frary, & Clark make with that design? I knew of the Jet 99 and the Atlas but hadn't seen the Whirlwind before. Were there others that shared this unusual design?

At least 3 machines were made under the Viking name for Eatons in Canada with that design. As well I've seen one made under the name President for State Vacuum Stores. All by L F & C

Rick,

Can't wait to see you work your magic.
Glad you got the Whirlwind!!
I know you'll do a beautiful job.

BTW, it was great meeting you in FL.
Look forward to seeing you in N. Canton.
We'll have a great time!!

Hey Rick

The first clue about the condition is that it did not smell up the car on the way home!! LOL!! Not even a hint of the mustiness that is associated with some old vintage machines and you would have to admit, we would have noticed it in the close quarters of my car. Your magic hands will create another beauty I'm sure. The Westinghouse on the other hand will be more of a challenge. I want to see that process step by step. Don't forget, you promised me a resto on one of my vacs as well so you will have a busy spring. :-)

Robb...

You're right it did not stank up the car! I wouldn't have thought of that. Mom always told me you were the smart one!

Doug, well, thanks for the pic of the Viking! Now I'm really messed up! The whole L F & C thing is starting to "bother" me. There is so much I don't know. Alan was going to fly me up to New Britain Conn., put me up in the Ritz, and rent me a car so that I could research The L F & C company logs/catalogs they retain there, but he pulled the deal at the last minute! LOL! But it's becoming clear now, that I'm going to have to do something. You posted some Viking/Eureka pics recently right? I'm curious about that connection too.

Rick

Why am I always the last person to hear about these plans? Maybe you could have them send down microfilm of all the documents.

Rick,

It was great meeting you at Terry's and I can't wait to see the magic you perform on that machine....you truly are lucky...I am not sure I would have allowed that machine in my car...LOL

I am surprised it was so clean, but I do remember when they fired her up there was not cloud of dust...unlike the Westinghouse canister...I thought we lost Miss Tania in that one.

Morgan

Alan, it is very nice of you to offer to fly Rick up to CT, put him up in a nice hotel....for the sake of the club and the history of the vacuum...LOL

Hey Rick!! Glad to see you've got your hands on some real neat finds. If you remember, I have a Whirlwind just like yours in my collection, with the hose and all tools. I'm sure both it and the poor Westinghouse will both be as gorgeous as the Jett 99 and Lux that you brought with you to the house. You'll have to come back soon for another visit and update me on the latch repair on my Singer. Later, Trg
