After talking myself out of it many times, I finally bought myself a new Sanitaire for use at school with the weekend church rental. I opted for a Quiet Clean SC889, as I use it on Sundays while there are still church members in the vicinity. It's especially useful when the church setup crew removes desks from a classroom and discover crumbs and paper waste between the desk legs. I come in and quickly sweep up the crumbs while they are tending to room setup. I get extra pay for being the school-church liaison, so I decided that I could treat myself with church pay. I paid about $200 for the vacuum, and figure it'll get a good enough workout to justify the cost.

I've always been drawn to having a 2-speed vacuum, and this one is very nice to use. The quiet mode appears to simply be a stepdown mode, spinning the motor and brushroll at a slower and quieter speed. The quiet mode is great for quick pickups without disturbing others in the room. The full power mode functions like one would expect a Sanitaire with a 7 amp pancake motor to work.

So far, the lowest height setting is just about right for both our newer carpet and worn out carpet. I haven't run into issues with the brushroll bogging down when transitioning to new carpet. That was a little bit of an issue with my blue line S675, but not an issue at all with my Eureka 1934B.

Congrats Brian! Very handsome machine. If you seem to go through belts quickly, try a Koblenz upright belt, they seem to last somewhat longer than the Eureka belt, check with a vac shop in your area, they might have them or you can order online. It sounds as if you'll be putting it through it's paces.

Here's one...

Koblenz Belt

Vac-O-Matic, thanks for the tip about the Koblenz belts. I bet one of the two nearby shops has them. I have largely avoided the problem with careful height adjustment, but wouldn't mind trying a different belt. On that note, I have made a second attempt at ordering an 8 position knob. Maybe it won't be on backorder this time.

Very nice machine I have a similar one-a Contractor model. It is only one speed-has the same handle as yours with the power switch on the handle rather than the base. And mine can use a standard 3 wire extension cord.So if the cord wears out-you get a new one-and one the length you want! You have a nice machine for a nice price!!Saintaires are easy to service when the need comes.

Sanitaire

As above the original style Sanitaires are great vacs with no problem finding parts and service when needed.I prefer any of them with throw away bags.Your more deluxe model above is only ALMOST perfect (to me & other leftys) as it has a design error often seen on many products. That is, the switch is mounted to one side and not convenient for a left handed user.If you compere this to the deluxe Sears canisters with the hose mounted switch you will see the Kenmore switch is centered and equally convenient for either hand to operate.A small thing but I (& other leftys) would would like for designers of vacs and ANY product to consider this.
Happy Vacuuming!(& hope you are right handed)

I'm left handed, too! I'm used to it, as my S675 has the handle mounted switch, too. One disappointment I've had is not with the vacuum itself, but with the bulk pack of style ST bags that came with it from thinkvacuums.com. The synthetic bags I normally use leave the outer bag nice and clean. The paper bags I got from thinkvacuums.com leave the outer bag a dusty mess, especially up where the dirt tube blows into the paper bag.
