Hit a couple of Goodwills, a couple of Salvation Armys and a couple of local thrift stores.

Goodwill in Willowbrook has a Eureka Imperial in salmon pink and gray for $15.

The thrift store in Aurora has a Silverado with power nozzle for $15 and they also have a Eureka Roto-Matic in yellow with hose and some attachments for $15 and a couple of Kirby G series.

The Salvation Army in Montgomery has a Kirby Classic III for $35 and a Kirby Heritage for $35 as well.

Two of the other Goodwills had Eureka vacs with the metal hood with the louvers in it and the plastic handle and lots of Dirt Devil bagless vacs.

Picked up a Hoover Convertable at the Goodwill in St. Charles for a friend of mine for $4.

Wow. Quite a selection. The last time I went by the Goodwill store closest to my house, they had exactly nothing, nada, nichts, not one single vacuum cleaner.

No, the only thing I bought was the Hoover Convertable for a friend.

I'm not really interested in any of them. I have enough as it is. I just figure if there are collectors around here I'm just letting them know where some of the different one are.

If it were something from the teen's, 20's or 30's I would be interested. As in my 1939 Electrolux, my Hoover 105, my Kirby C, my Electrolux XI, etc.

Hit the Goodwills and Salvation Armys again. Three Kirbys, a Singer, and LOTS of plastic junk.

Andy if you're looking for a Kirby the Goodwill in Willowbrook has a Kirby G3, a Kirby G5 and a Kirby G6. They are asking $35 apiece.

I wish I had that kind of selection. The thrift stores in Birmingham suck big time. I went on a thrifting spree today and literally the best thing I found all day was a fluorescent work light. No good vacuums, no good TV's, nothing.

I tend to have better luck at thrift stores located near affluent neighborhoods. They just tend to attract a nicer class of junk.

I went 'thrifting' this weekend and the only thing of even remote interest I found was a Kirby floor tool in 'cabernet' to match my G5. But even at $1.21 (this store loves palindromic pricing), I couldn't justify it since I already three sets of Kirby attachments, albeit not in cabernet, that I never use. I bought one of those sets at the same thrift store a few years ago for about $4.50. It makes me wonder how that lone tool got there. My guess is they must have had a complete G5 set and that one fell out of the caddy.

Well by Monday the G6 was gone, then on Tuesday the G5 was gone. All that is left is the G3 and someone has already stolen the hubcaps off the rear wheels.

But found a really nice Oreck XL Classic for $9.99 in a baby blue.

Hey Ray, nice Oreck find! You might say it's kind of rare, it's the only baseline model with that hood style. I worked for Oreck when they came out and thought it was a rather nice looking Oreck. I believe that was the last "stick" handle model, as the base model now has the helping handle and has gone back to the old hood style. If you don't want to keep it, that would flip well on Craigslist or Ebay I think.

The Goodwill in Batavia has a Hoover Handivac
The Thrift Store in Aurora still has the Electrolux Silverado, a G3, a Kirby Classic and they now have a Royal canister vac with powernozzle.
The Goodwill in Naperville has a Hoover Dial-O-Matic in orange and white for $7

Beyond that it was a lot of Craptastic Plastic vacs.

I have my 'schedule' of regular 'haunts': Second Avenus, and Impact!
I've gotten great tiems there. I usually find HOOVER belts, bags, tools, etc. semi-regularly. Impact! is an upscale place. You can tell that they got furniture from a deceased person because it all matches. Some fabulous stuf comes from there.

Saw some interesting stuff today. Twin Chamber Tempo, Black Oreck XL, Windtunnel V2 bagless, older Hoover that had a hand vac that mounts onto the front. The Oreck was in great shape, but I typically only buy Fantoms and higher end stuff these days due to space constraints.

Some people are just beastly when it comes to caring for their vacuum cleaners. One woman I knew in Naperville, Illinois used to lift her Electrolux 1205 by the hose instead of the handle. When I asked her why? she said "it's only a vacuum cleaner, why should I care about it, it's not like it has feelings or anything!" I just bit my tongue, but that's the general attitude of some people. GRRRRRRR!

The Kirby I posted does look nice, but I cannot get it. Not worth the drive, and I have a lot of vacs now.

In my area, there seems to be a bunch of older vacs on CL. I even saw a nice Lewyt this summer.

The Goodwill in Woodridge has a Eureka Powerline canister with the power nozzle.

The Thrift store in Aurora has 2 Kirby Classics, a Kirby Classic III, A Kirby Heritage, a Panasonic upright, something I couldn't identify and several other vacuums I didn't feel like digging through.

The Goodwill in Naperville had several vacuums piled on top of each other in a bin. I thought I saw a Dirt Devil Vision ( is it a vision or a nightmare ? ) in the bin under something else.

The rest of the Goodwills had the usual cheap junk vacuums.

The last time I saw a decent vacuum of any sort at any thrift store around here was last spring when I snagged a pristine Kirby Gsix with accessories for $50. The only other thing that even halfway caught my eye in recent memory was an Electrolux upright last fall, that was until I saw how trashed it was.

"...Simply amazing stuff. Then, for a while, nothing at all."

I don't think it's just the shops either.  It will be like that on Ebay, Craigslist, and the like as well.

One weekend I found 5 things on Craigslist that needed to be purchased and juggled to make it happen.  Other times, it's like like a funeral parlor.

Same thing with Ebay.  Back in November, I couldn't buy enough stuff, then in February, it's like Ebay put a moratorium on listing canister vacuums.

Hit 7 Goodwills today, found a Kirby Sentria Poo kit that has never been used, it even has the unopened sample bottle of Allergen Carpet Shampoo for $4.99 and then found 2 boxes of Electrolux bags at two different Goodwills for $0.99 each. So it's been a Kirby and Electrolux day.

""Do you KNOW how hard it is to find THAT model?" She replied, "No, you owe me ten bucks". lol "
and
"found a Kirby Sentria Poo kit"
But seriously, I miss shopping at the Chicago area thrift stores.  Bikerray has it made.  Thats a great deal on Electrolux bags.

Hit several Goodwills today and found this Montgomery Ward Signature hand vac model 82URC-702 for $3. It's a rebranded Royal Prince. A little cleaning and it looks good. Washed the bag, got most of the stains out of it. The bag still has the MW Signature logo on it.

I like the color of that MW hand vac.

I have a relative that could use something like this, for doing stairs.

You can't beat 90 cents for a pack of Handisacs!
And Ray could you give me a call back when you get a chance? Thanks!

Hit the thrift stores today, took a pass on a Royal model 880 for $39 (it was almost mint), an Electrolux Epic 6000 canister, an Electrolux model L, another Royal metal upright done all in green and a Panasonic upright. There was also the usual craptastic plastic.

I fail to understand Goodwill's pricing, today I saw a Kirby G6 for $60, then a Kirby G4 for $10. A Shark for $50 and a Dyson DC24 for $12.

Took a pass on a blue and white Hoover Dial-a-matic today for $10. The Kirby G4 for $10 is still at Goodwill along with one of those Eureka uprights that has the dusting brush that fits into that plastic tube and spins.

I reply: I know what you mean. One visit they've got a totally beat down Kirby Classic III outrageously priced at $110 and then the next time they're giving away an Electrolux Diamond Jubilee in splendid condition for $10. You can probably guess which one I bought and which one I left behind.

After a lot of puzzling over that conundrum, the only thing I can figure is it's all down to the sensibilities of whoever's wielding the pricing gun....and some of them have more sense than others. My all time favorite thrift shop find is still a Wedgwood jasperware plate I picked up for ten whole cents. That's not even a penny on the dollar of what it's worth.

Hit some of the Goodwills today before the next flood.

Found a Hoover model 63 for $3 and an Oreck Buster B for $5 ( that goes to a friend, I'm not impressed with Oreck at all).

The 63 has the original bag in perfect condition, washed it out and dried it, it feels like satin (shiny and smooth).

Re; "Waterford"

Are they signed by a person? That makes them rare and more special. Ex. by Tom Brennan, an elder craftsman at "House of Waterford" in Ireland.
All Waterford crystal is etched on the base with the Waterford etching script regardless if it was made in Ireland prior to the main factory being moved to Slovenia in 2009. Yes, most Waterford crystal is now made in Slovenia.
Only "House of Waterford" items are still made in Ireland.
$2 for anything Waterford is a good deal.
Even the Marquis line, which is a budget priced line. Marquis was only crystalline until recently. No lead in it's glass. Lately, some pieces of Marquis are as much as 24% lead crystal. Older and house of Waterford pieces may have as much as 30% lead. Otherwise, modern genuine Waterford from Europe is 24% lead.
If you like to collect crystal, another fine brand is Crystal Darque's from France. It is high quality 24% lead, and heavy. Also not expensive. I've found several larger pieces at resale stores for under $30.
Mikasa has also marketed some nice items from the European crystal makers of Germany, Poland, the Czeck republic, and Slovenia. I see them often enough.

I love Waterford crystal

My sister, aunt, and I (late mother's) all have it. It's beautiful, heavy, and adds to any table. I recently found a Waterford lamp in a thrift store. It was filthy, had the cord cut, etc. It was dirt cheap.

I took it home, took it apart, re-wired it, scrubbed and polished it, and gave it to my aunt.It now graces a beautiful carved mahogany table in her living room. All of our drink ware was still made in Ireland. It's so expensive now.

is a real workhorse. Taken care of, it'll last a lifetime. Nice to find an original bag. Will outclean anything now. And, it has that wonderful Hoover "hum".

Orrefor's of Sweden

is also nice lead crystal if you like the more contemporary style. It is pricey new, but crystal doesn't appreciate much in general, and used items are very affordable.

The Goodwill has a baby blue and white Hoover model 7141 Convertible for $5, I took a pass on it.

Otherwise their vacuum selection just sucks and their sewing machine selection is so so, but they do have reasonable prices on occasion.

Lots of craptastic plastic today, a Dirt Devil featherlight that the bearings were just screaming on. A Kenmore LP2 twin brush roll upright (don't quite get why 2 brush rolls, but then I didn't get why the Kenmore beltless brush roll, (the one with the motor in the brushroll))

There was also a Kirby Classic III for $5

I ended up with an Arkay in the original box with the manual and original hose and attachments.

I've been buying up a lot of waterless cookware from Lustre Craft, Healthcraft, Lifetime, VitaCraft etc. Lately. Stores usually charge $3-5 a pan and apparently are unaware just how expensive that stuff is these days.

Vacuums have been kind of sparrse in quality or condition for the price. My last really good find was the E2 Black last summer and I found a Fantom Thunder and a Fury in pretty good shape since.

Everything else has been pretty much watches, jewelry and occasional stray pieces of silver.

Used to find a lot of paintings but not so many anymore, same goes for good stereo equipment.
