Hello,
New member on the site. I got an old Hoover and would like more information.

It's a Hoover Model 500....serial No.3002069 made in Hamilton Canada. Black motor, aluminum body, brown cloth bag, original electric cord. Except for the 'dirtfinder' light, it works great. It has a "To Fit Hoover" bag with original long spring. The rotating brushes are not worn and with the steel thumpers, spins properly and it sucks good. According to the patent label, it is at least 1930....

I've attached a few photos. Adice, suggestions, and information or best guesses about its date of manufacture and its value are welcome

Regards,
Alan

That Canadian model looks exactly like our model 300. The U.S. model 300 was made between 1935 and 1938. The cord and bag are not original, the bottom plate is rusty, it is not worth a great deal, depends how bad someone wants it. Because it is a Canadian model it could bring some attention to collectors here in the U.S., not sure of that however.

Model 300s in the U.S., unless 100% complete and original including the original bag and plug, are not terribly desirable or valuable. I paid $5 for mine and it's in decent shape, though the bag and cord have been replaced. I use it as my everyday vacuum and it does work well.
