It's been almost a year since I took the last photo. They are all together now in the basement after a ton of work to get them down there. I have about seventy machines now, down from 130 at the collection's peak. I'm mainly into high end/vintage canisters now.

Would you believe it was $5 in the basement of a vac shop? It's in close to mint condition, but I have no idea if it runs. I've had it for a while. I have neither the battery nor a charger.

Four more beauties have joined the "cult."

fantomfan's profile picture
So glad to have these... especially the Cyclone XT!!

Hoover Celebrity II Elite- saw this on estatesales.net a week ago. Called and inquired, was told it worked but the powerhead didn't. Came the second day of the sale and it was tagged at $40- half off at $20.88 including tax. The canister runs beautifully. The powerhead actually DOES run, albeit with some bearing noise. The main issue is that the powerhead's neck is broken off and missing. I had to make a temporary "neck" for it until I find a donor powerhead. That will probably take a while, but at least it works as is. Very little rust on it, which is great.

Kenmore PowerPlus- I was about to buy a Kenmore Twin Fan on ebay for $67. I decided not to but regretted it. The DAY after the auction ended, a beautiful Twin Fan came up on craigslist for $30. I went over the following day and bought it. It works perfectly and is in close to mint condition. It came with a dozen bags. It was dirty so I'm going to wash the bag when the weather is nicer.

Electrolux LX- It was on craigslist FOREVER. (At least the beginning of august.) They wanted $45 which I thought was too high. I waited a month until they were down to $30. I inquired and was told they were putting it in a garage sale for $35 (I did get it for $30 though.) WELL, I went the second day of the sale and sure enough, it was still there. It has a genuine replacement E-Lux hose. It does have rust on the metal trim, but it's not that bad. The BEST part is the ejector STILL WORKS! Put my hand over the hose and the bag shot right out! The plug has also been replaced. I glued a Hoover Y HEPA bag onto the old E-Lux bag collar, so now this sixty year old vacuum has HEPA filtration! But, I wasn't expecting what I also found at the sale, a CYCLONE XT!!

Fantom Cyclone XT- I knew that the guy has more vacs at the garage sale, but as I walked up, I noticed a Fantom Cyclone XT next to a Bissell Powerforce! The best part? It was only $5. The handle release is missing, but that's its only defect. It's pretty much perfect otherwise. It was just clogged and has something stuck in the brushroll housing. Both the lights still work and the switches work fine. SOO GLAD to have this. My only other Cyclone has burned through two motors. I took the good parts off the old one and put it on this. Now I have one GOOD Cyclone XT! It's displayed proudly next to my Fantom Wildcat. Made the fifth week of 2001.

More Updates with some RARE finds!

fantomfan's profile picture
Long story short, I have some more machines!

A woman emailed me a couple of weeks ago with six vintage vacuums. She is moving her eighty four year old mother into a nursing home and has/had a:
-Penncrest stick vac
-Hoover Celebrity II
-Hoover Floor Washer
-Hoover Lark stick vac
-Eureka Rally
-Kenmore Magicord

I picked all of them up last Saturday except for the Magicord and Lark (They are going to use those until they are done moving.) When they are done, I'm going to buy those as well. They wanted $20 each which I thought was fair. The Rally I'm selling as it's too new for my liking. I've never had a Penncrest so that's nice to have. The Celebrity is close to mint and works perfectly. The Floor Washer has some rust on the wheel area but it works great. Also:

I bought a Silver King on ebay. I knew they just went out of business and I wanted to get one before people realized they were done. I bought this older model which is in fairly good condition and isn't rusty. I just polished up the top of it. I made a new filter out of a HEPA bag and made a new "motor protector" filter out of an F & G bag. It works great but doesn't have the wand. I'll have to find that. Finally, my best find:

Someone contacted me last week saying that they had an OLD Hoover that they found in a relative's attic. They didn't know if it ran and were going to throw it out if I wasn't interested. He sent me pics and I was shocked.... TWO SPEED HOOVER MODEL 750 WITH HEADLIGHT!!! He brought it over on Friday and I bought it for $25- a steal because it DOES in fact still run, on BOTH speeds. I just polished it up. The bag isn't original and is tattered but overall the condition of the actual vacuum isn't that bad. I just need to figure out how to get the brushroll out to service it and change the belt. The motor had NO trouble starting, it just let out a nice puff of dust upon the first power-up. SO GLAD to have saved this relic. It's a gorgeous machine that deserves to be preserved unlike most throwaway machines.

Hoover parts

durango159's profile picture
The Hoover Elbow is known as the Nozzle Position Bracket. Part number 43468013 it is still findable online on a few sites.

If you need the power nozzle hose it is part number: 43431196

Neither one is expensive!! I found the elbow (nozzle position bracket) on ebay a couple years back for $8 brand new.

I like those Hoover Celebrity canisters a lot! Here's mine! It got used on Monday!

That Penncrest stick-vac was made by Eureka. The floor brush looks like a replacement installed by a vac repair shop. It's definitely not the original nozzle that came with the unit.

Enjoy your new toys! :-)

I actually did that, eurekaprince!

The original nozzle was missing and the people I bought it from had a bunch of extra tools. This fit perfectly on it even though it isn't original.

Hey FantomFan....if you want to get closer to the original, I'm sure you could easily find a Eureka carpet nozzle or bare floor brush in beige that would fit...

Glad ebay has that Hoover neck you need! :-)

I bought the ebay one. It cost a couple more dollars but it has a picture (unlike amazon) so I know it's the right one.

"They contacted you"....

Hi, are you posting somewhere that you are looking for vintage vacuums?

It would be a great idea if you are.

How is your hose for the power nozzle on the Hoover Celebrity?

Your collection is very very nice!! Lots of neat machines there from the Royal Power Tank, Dual zipper bagged Eureka World Vac, complete Iona Fantom line up, vintage Kenmore power teams and of course several Hoover power team canisters. How do you like the bagless Elite canister?

I never knew that Fantom had so many different Fury editions!

Nice!

Pretty awesome collection you got here. That ClearTrak looks beautiful! Glad you were able to get it. Hey, did you see the $100 Kenmore Drytech that was on eBay a few weeks ago? Seemed almost like mint condition.
