I recently moved from Calgary, Alberta, to the Denver area (specifically Aurora), for a new position in craniofacial biology research at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

I would like to get the new Kirby Avalir (since it can shampoo hard floors as well as all the other Kirby functions). My 1-bedroom apartment is 2/3 carpeted, the rest is laminate flooring (vestibule, kitchen, bath, hallway, and laundry alcove).

How can I get an Avalir at a good price, without paying thousands to a D2D salesman? Are any of you in Denver owners of one? Or where are good local distributors or stores where I can get one? Can I haggle the price down to cost?

Thanks!

If your looking for the lowest price on a new one, get one on eBay. They last forever, so the warranty isn't a issue for most people. And even if you do encounter a problem, YouTube has a video for Almost any repair. Very easy to work on, and parts are cheap. There's one on eBay, nib for $719.

eBay or Craigslist

Yeah, eBay or Craigslist are the way to go. The amount you'd save will buy you a lot of parts as you need them. Heck, you could even send it in for a $300 factory rebuild in 15 or 20 years and still come out ahead.

You have to buy a Kirby from a door to door salesman in order to get a factory rebuild. They will not honor the factory rebuild warranty on eBay or Craigslist sales.

$719 for a brand new in the box Avalir is a good price.

I actually...

Tried to get my G4 rebuilt a while ago, and my local distributor said that they only rebuild them if they get severely damaged (Fire, water damage etc). Is that true or will they rebuild any machine

No, that is NOT true! The Kirby Company will honor their rebuild guarantee & rebuild the Kirby, at the owner's request, for ANY reason, as long as they pay the fee of course. This is completely separate from their Fire Protection Plan. Also note, Kirby will also rebuild for a person who is not the original owner, but they will be charged signifigantly more. The reason your Distributor wants you to think they will only rebuild if it gets severely damaged by fire, is they want you to think when your Kirby is too worn out to be repaired, that your only option is to buy a new Kirby from them. And of course, they stand to profit from it too.

Don't even bother with the distributor. Email or call Kirby direct, and like rob said they will rebuild it for you. I called last year ,out of curiosity, for a price on a g-6 rebuild, and Kirby quoted me $350 plus shipping.
