Hi guys! I'm new into the vacuumland world. Got started with a old hoover an ended up finding my uncles old bojack kirby classic 1cr in our storage house an I got the bug!

I found a old kirby sanitronic vii for $2.17 at our local goodwill outlet. Everything original minus the attachments. Well what I'm asking is what is the correct belt for the sanitronic and the classic 1cr?

I went to a local vacuum store an they gave me belt part number 301289. Is this the correct belt or no? I hear kirby has a ribbed belt also but I hear it may hurt the bearings in the motors on these old cleaners.

Thanks guys for the help and I'll be making a official thread for my introduction later☺

Laith,

Welcome aboard! The belt you want for both your machines is part no. 159056. This is the only recommended belt Kirby has for models 505 to Dual Sanitronic 80, and models Classic 1CR to Tradition 3CB with the original sleeve-bearing, silver-painted brush roll.

Here's three of them:

The belt you were given, part no. 301289, can be used for the brush roll for models Heritage I to Legend II, as well as be used on all polishers (model 516 and up) and Rug Renovators. You can keep that in case you ever find a polisher for either one of your two machines.

Hello Ben,

Thank you for your greetings here! Seems like some pretty nice folks here I must say! An thank you for the clarification on this with the belts.

I've been doing so much research as to which belts are correct for these vacuums an heard about the belts you quoted an also the belts that I have on both machines currently.

BTW I have put a new brush roll on the Kirby Classic 1CR actually. It's a wooden brand new brushroll I bought about 2 weeks that was sent up from Portland actually to Everett. But the sanitronic has the original brushroll.

What will happen using the current belts on my machines actually? I have about 30min of run time on the sanitronic an around an hour or hour an a half of run time on the 1CR. I hope I haven't done any damage.

Does kirby still make the 159056 belt also? I will be buying the belts you linked me but I'm just wondering about stock since these machines are so old.

Laith,

That I wish I knew. . . but you might like to call Kirby up at 1-800-437-7170 with your concern about this specific part number (159056).

If the brush roll currently in your Classic 1CR has ball bearings, then the 301291 treaded belt should do you just fine.

Laith,

If you are still interested, here's an eBay link to the 159056 soft belt:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kirby-Belt-516-T...

Make sure you contact the seller so that he can identify whether the belt in question is correct. The 159056 soft belts will only have the Kirby name stamped on them.

Yes, the 159056 belt is still available from Kirby, I just bought a 25 pack from Kirby a couple months ago.

The 159056A is the 25 pack
The 159056G is the 3 pack

Kirby Belts

I got good information recently about this subject. It seems that the newer knurled belts are intended for the wood brushrolls and if you use them on older models, these belts will not negatively affect the motor or bearings. The issue is using the newer belt on the older silver brushrolls. In that case, the bearings in the older brush rolls wear faster. Maybe Bill from Illinois can chime in on this. What is very clear is that using the newer knurled belt on the 500 series, bakelight belt lifters is a catastrophe. I broke two of these precious belt lifters because of trying to use a knurled belt on a new brushroll for my 516 and 519! Live and learn!!
