I finally got to try out the one wide area vac we have at work. I like this a lot better than our ride on vacuum i feel there is a lot more airflow to it and it may pick up better.

For those unfamiliar with the Carpetriever it's a 3 motor system, two motors for suction, and one for the brush. The brush has a wide diameter with...i think 5 rows of fairly stiff brushes.

Has anyone else had the opportunity to use a wide area vacuum?

Wide vacs

Your ride-on vacuum sounds pretty cool... I get to use a NSS Pacer when I volunteer to clean the chapel at the church I attend. It's definitely not the most maneuverable vacuum (300 lbs), but the balance is awesome for such a big vac. It's got tons of suction and is pretty dang quiet. It really makes huge rooms go by fast. The cord is so long that you have to "hike" back to move the plug ahead!

I've seen some pacers for sale on ebay.

The rider we have is a Windsor Ivac here's a youtube video on it. It has dual counter rotating brushes a circular side brush, an onboard hose, and a post motor hepa filter. The people who use it like it. I'm not a big fan of it as standing still hurts my feet i'd rather be pushing a more conventional wide vac around.

Interesting

Are there emissions with this Ivac, or does it charge overnight (I had the sound off on the video)?
I like the regular upright Windsor's a lot, but this thing is in a whole category by itself.
Yeah, I think I'd get tired standing around on a vacuum... They should make a tractor seat or something.
Maybe it's just me, but the operator looks kinda goofy driving that Ivac around...I guess you need good self esteem before "riding" it! At least it doesn't require a silly hat, too!

Awesome, thanks for sharing!

I have a blue Powerflite wide path vacuum. It is direct air with a 10A motor and huge metal fan-24" brush.Using it is kinda like using a lawnmower.Last night while watching abandoned place videos on YouTube-an urban explorer-videomaker Dan Bell showed an abandoned boweling alley-power was still on.There was a broken ceiling fan going and wobbling. The alley UV lights were on giving the video an erie effect-and boweling shoes- strewn everywhere.Pinsetters were vandalized-don't folks realize these are worth a lot???In the cleaning room there was a NSS Pacer widepath vacuum--in good shape no less. The explorer was chased out by agressive homeless folks in the area-bet they are wearing boweling shoes! And if you needed boweling pins and balls-they were also strewn about.

Interesting video about the Windsor Chariot vacuum. For some folks the standing position can be bad if they have back or spine problems.A seat would be better. The on board hose and tools are sort of nice-but think this sort of cleaning would be better done with a backpack vacuum.

I enjoyed the Hoover Conquest.

They made a "double Conquest" too.  Great machine.

Rex,
How is the airflow on that Power-flite? I've been somewhat curious as to how the direct air ones and clean air ones compare, unfortunately i've only ever used a clean air vac.

John,

I think i recall seeing pictures of that somewhere, it's an interesting way to solve the issue of large spaces, i've also seen pictures of a eureka with a similar setup.

The airflow of mine is very good--Like other direct air vacuums they work from high airflow--not "suction" pressure. It also has a strong drum like roller brush-driven by a shaft and pulley on the other end of the motor. The fan is on the other side of the motor. The fan is sort of like an NSS M1 fan-just a bit smaller.Mine of course doesn't have provisions for a hose and handtools.

Re Advance

We have one of those at work, it does a great job, the janitors can do a whole hallway in no time.
