It sounds like they're just simplifying their supply offerings for these discontinued machines. Not really a big deal as I'm sure NOS supplies of those discontinued bags will still be available for several years to come. Suppliers of third-party bags will probably also ramp up production to fill the void. All three of my G-series Kirbys are presently fitted with genuine G3 bags, of which I've got a decent little supply, along with an even larger supply of third party Envirocare Microfiltration bags. I have no performance complaints on either type and I don't foresee myself rushing out to stock up on discontinued bags.

I prefer in locals where my allergies aren't too bad to leave the original filtration in place. |

There are two major reasons why someone would want to revert their Classic series machine back to the cloth shakeout bag system.
One reason is because the Classic and Heritage series Kirbys have more airflow and better performance with the shakeout bag than the replaceable paper bag system which restricts airflow. Kirby overcame this problem in the G series machines by using a larger fan and a bigger motor.
The second reason is because the D50, D80 and the early Classic machines have a higher resale value with the original shakeout system than after they have been bojacked to use paper bags.
Personally, I have no problem taking the bag and emptor off my fully restored D50 out to the backyard and giving it a good shake out there. Twice a year I turn the bag inside out and vacuum it with my Hoover Windtunnel Air converted to canister mode.
