My Super J was last refurbished 15 years ago.
This time I completely disassembled and cleaned it, replacing the vacuum lines as well. It was extremely dirty, but it cleaned up nice. I wanted a color to complement the plastic pieces and went with Rustoleum 7250 black night metallic.
I marked all components to make assembly easier and took lots of pics.
It is off to my son's new place for another round.
Nothing garish like some of those I see on ebay.

Nice job. Much more tasteful than the "Electric Leprechaun" machine currently on eBay.

pre-filter

Thanks,

Forget to mention the pre-filter I am trying out.
I had a bag of these vent filters from when I made a filter for my air compressor.
Turns out they are they are almost the right size for the bag chamber.
Just need to trim the length. Should keep the insides a little cleaner.

How is the plastic trim so un-faded? I found a Golden J on Ebay recently that wasn't badly faded and purchased it. It was the least-faded machine I'd seen on there in months, but it's nowhere near as nice as yours.

That Super J was tossed around in my garage for years before I refurbished it.
I did not take any before pics, but it was pretty ugly.

All plastic pieces were soaked in a solution of Dawm, bleach, and TSP (real Tri-sodium Phosphate.
Remember phosphate was removed from household detergents a few years back.

------------------------------------------------------------
There is a way now to reverse the fading of hard plastic. (Retr0bright) It took years and a team of people to figure it out. Turns out bromine is the cause of the yellowing, it is used as a flame retardant. I have to try it on one of my plastic sheaths. Look at some of the before and after pics.

The formula for making it is free. You need to go to the home page of the
The "Retr0bright" Project - www.retr0bright.com/...

wikipedia has a condensed version of "Retr0bright" :

I'm working on an LE right now, and after playing around with it, I prefer the metal canister's.
