I have never heard of a Discovery I. I've always understood that the Discovery series began with the Discovery IIs.

Here is a timeline of the Discovery series I compiled (they may have all had 8.1A ratings--those recorded are the ones I know for sure did) Years are approximate since Aerus has made its records available to the public, so they are based on observations:

Model 1500/Discovery II™ - sand/jade: 1986
Model 1500C/Discovery II™ - sand/jade: 1986
Model 1572E/Discovery II™ - sand/jade: 1987
Model 1572E/Discovery Plus™ (8.1A) - sand/jade: 1987 ("Plus" stood for onboard tool storage)

Model 1572E/Discovery III™ - (8.1A) sand/taupe: 1987-88

Model 1572E/Discovery Advantage™-lt.sand/navy:1988-90

None of the series had headlights--which were added during the later Genesis upright series.

Those with the bold, capital letter wordmark--Discovery III and Discovery Advantage--were manufactured in Canada and assembled in the U. S. All the others--with the familiar boat-shaped logo first used in 1962--were manufactured and assembled in the U. S. The Canadian and American companies merged around 1985, and the Canadian plant closed 4-5 years later.

An Electrolux Genisis? It's in good condition and it works. It's very very similar to the discovery. I have one I'm trying to sell.

My genesis is...

sries's profile picture
At a vacuum consignment shop near me in Tacoma. The issue right now is that I'm going on vacation on Thursday and I may not be able to get it to for about a week and a half or two weeks because I need to go over there and sign paperwork to get it out of consignment. And I'm very busy packing a getting stuff ready. The good news is that I really want to sell this vacuum so I will try and get it to you as soon as I get back. The pictures that I have are not mine because right at this moment I can't go and get pictures of it. These pictures are just to show you what it looks like. The vacuums in these two pictures are exactly like the one that I have. So if you want this vacuum I will get it to you as soon as I can. :)

No problem, Sheetstyler. I'm still learning, so I just wondered if a 'Discovery I' existed.

Yes, Electrolux cleaners are well-built and well-running machines. I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever one you decide to purchase--even if it needs some work to rejuvenate it.

Fyi ... here is a rough timeline of the Genesis upright series:

Model 1572F/Genesis™ - (9.5A) lt. sand/navy: 1990-91
Model 1685/Genesis LX™ - lt. sand/navy: 1991-92 (LX is an abbreviation for 'Lux'--the International System Unit of illuminance and luminous emittance--meaning it has a headlight)
Model 1717/Genesis LXe™ (10A) - lt. sand/navy: 1991-92 (I'm uncertain what the 'e' signified--perhaps 'Luxury Edition' because it came with more accessories?)

The name stamps on both series are stamped in small text on the top of the brush roll hood and can be viewed by releasing the handle assembly.

Also, for both series there were 2 serial ID stickers, 2 letters with 5 digits in between, affixed to the outside of the cleaner: one which was exposed and intended to be placed on the contract to avoid copy errors and one under the handle. I mention it in case you'd want to locate it and use it for personal identification.

So...

sries's profile picture
I went to the vacuum consignment/repair place to pick up the Electrolux Genesis and signed all the paper work to pick and went over to the display window to grab it and it wasn't there. So I asked the guy there where it was and he said it was in the back. Him and I went back there and couldn't find it. We looked all over the store and still couldn't find it. So we looked through file cabinets to see if there was any record of it being sold and we couldn't find anything, all the records said it was still in the store. He told me he's going to ask the other employees if they know what happened to it. So they're are three possibilities I could still be somewhere in the store, it could have been sold and the information wasn't recorded, or it got stolen. I know I couldn't have taken it home because it's only been there for around two months. This repair place is very unorganized when it comes to putting down information about thier and thier costomers stuff. And it's been even worse lately since someone crashed they're Jeep into thier work/repair area. The people who run this place are very nice and they're my friends but they aren't very careful with other people's things which is the main reason why I'm not very happy with this situation. So in conclusion I'm very sorry for the inconvenience .If they do find the vacuum maybe we can agree on a price and I'll get it to you as soon as I can. I'm also sorry for not getting back to you sooner I got back from vacation two days ago and all of this happened yesterday.

I am still interested in this machine but...

sheetstyler's profile picture
I would still like to get this machine but I found on craiglist 2 Electrolux uprights. One is an advantage and the other is a Genisis. The advantage won't turn on supposiblly and the Genisis doesn't have suction so it's probally clogged I am hoping. But they come with there attachments and 4 dozen of bags for $35. So I might get them or I might not I haven't decided.

I also have the commercial version.
Where would the vacuum be shipped to? It may be cost prohibitive. Lmk
