Drove 50 minutes to London dentist today for the quarterly root planing torture. Naturally I rewarded my Brave L'l Soldier behaviour by hitting all the Thrift type stores. Since a major snowaquall storm was already rolling in could only vsit Sally Ann and Value Village this time. Drove home slowly following trucks through whiteouts but at least got home before sunset.

Among other treasures to post later, I found this Panasonic Jet-Flow 190 complete with solid powerhose, a 14" wide edgecleaning power nozzle and all the tools under the hood. Plugged it in holding down the bag interlock and it ran fine.

I became enamoured of the apparent build quality and the nifty 360 degree rotating powerhose socket. The inner socket has sliprings that transfer the power to the plug-in hose blades. It has no rotational stops - it spins around and around. Also impressed with the cord tension spring arrangemnet on the power nozzle and power plug cord protector at the wand handle end.

There was no bag inside nor any indication of what type it takes but I'm sure I'll figure that out quickly. I took the power nozzle apart for the spa treatment and again was impressed with the internals, filters and air channeling.

So here come a whack of pictures of this bottom of the line entry level 1990s (?) Panasonic. I say this because the powerhead is missing a nameplate plug that covers the two holes in the upper casing that seem made to take indicator lights. Also clear indications that the tol power nozzle has a lense bezel and two bulb sockets. The vacuum body has indications of plugs in place where a tol model may have had a two speed motor?

Bearing in mind it hasn't been cleaned up yet, it's darn clean. Not bad for $9.99.

There was a burgundy Hoover the same size & type but the tool lid was missing and the hose was taped, so it stayed behind.

14" wide steel barreled power nozzle. you can see the holes for lights, or buttons to raise/lower the rear wheels. In this case, the wheels are fixed in place and there's no mechanism for moving them.

Don'tcha just luv it that someone left that nice clean 360 sticker in place?

Nozzle back together. Quite a shapely modeling in back, I think.

The hose power 360 socket. the dark biege ring does the rotating. Very tight seal, btw.

Other stuff

Three telephones. The golf ball is a touch-tone flip phone, not easy to hold on to. LOL Will make a great gag gift for the avid golfer in my department.

Not sure about the red one - it appears to have been spray painted but well done job. Needs cords. I think it's the Fail Safe phone. :-)

Favorite is the blue Northern Telecom JAZZ II, with a build label January 1995.

And I'll just mention it here and now...

...just before leaving for London I snatched this gorgeously primo Canadian Tire branded mid to late 1950's cylinder MASTER (craft) vacuum cleaner ensemble off eBay...to keep it in Canada, ya know.
Condolences to, if anyone here was also bidding on it.

It's located just south of London in Talbotville - no shipping! - and I'll be picking it up at noon on Saturday. And thrifting those missed stores on my merry way home.

Perhaps it is earlier vintage, as the cloth weave hose screws into either end.

Those runners seem sorta European, too? Or perhaps it's a GE/Premiere/Hotpoint clone? Hopefully the manufacture plate will yeild clues.

The complete Ensemble. Sure loks to me like all those holes are taken with pieces. Was the tools and caddy box with untorn handle that decided me to go for it and keep it in country.

Lady says she got it cheap at a local county auction. Not her sort of thing but she thought the color was pretty. Couldn't agree more.

New Thread coming Sunday.

Dave, with a mighty sore jaw fading overnight I hope.

thanks for the internal of the Panasonic nozzle. Odd that they would take the suction all the way to the side.

You got some teriffic consolation prizes after the dental discomfort. The Canadian Tire Corporation vacuum is a beaut. All the other things are neat to see too, especially the golf ball phone.

I thought it was an odd design choice, too, Brett, since it features a 14" swath. You can see the smaller inlet tube & secondary path down the other side that goes to the edge sweeping brush. The motor & belt chamber already has it's own, separating gasket, top side vent and cooling inlet behind the brushroll. I'm beginning to think that a small diameter hose has gone missing during a serviceing. I have just such a diameter corrugated plastic hose from a mattress inflator pump - think I'll borrow a 12" piece and check out the airflow.

Home sick-ish today with a sore throat and a slight fever. My first Sick Day taken in 25 years! But I ain't gonna risk being the latest Typhoid Mary in the workplace. Too many ruahed mornings walking to work still damp from the shower, I guess.

Later this afternoon I'll tackle the additional 8" that fell overnight. Oh, this snow!
