I've watched a number of videos from a person from the UK who must be the best ambassador for vacuum cleaner collecting since Stan Kann.  His YouTube name is ibaisaic, a mnenomic for the extinct Hoover slogan "It beats as it sweeps as it cleans."  He takes the time to do detailed, 40-50-minute-long complete and detailed reviews of some very good vacuums, including Miele and Sebo.  Does anyone know this gentleman personally, or does he participate in any of the collectors' sites or fora?  I don't have the impression (and this is purely bias) that he would have any patience for some of the childishness that takes place online from time to time, but he's obviously very generous with his time and energy, which his video reviews demonstrate very clearly.  Anyway, I just wonder if he has any presence on the collectors' sites.  Check out his videos if you haven't heard of him; not only will you see expert vacuum reviews and demonstrations, but you'll also treat yourself to an hour of video in English with absolutely zero bad grammar (rare to nonexistent in the US)! :)

Roger is a great guy....he really gives of his time to create very informative (and sometimes quite humourous) video clips demonstrating European vacs. For North Americans, these are must see videos to learn about the cleaners on the "other side of the pond." He also has the sweetest little doggies!

He deserves kudos from all of us here at Vacuumland!!!! :-) *applause* \o/!

Ooooh I'm blushing. Thank you Patrick and Brian for your kind words, it's nice to know that my efforts are appreciated, but I wouldn't make the videos if I didn't enjoy it.

You are completely correct in your assumption Patrick that I have no patience for some of the discussions that escalate in name calling and bitching about why this vacuum is better than that vacuum. For me, life is far to short to argue over a vacuum cleaner and it matters not one jot to me what fellow collectors choose to spend their money on. We are all here because we have an interest or passion for the humble vacuum cleaner and we should be happy that we live in a world that offers hundreds of different machines for us to admire and hopefully own. I don't make my videos in order to persuade people to buy a certain model, but of course I do get comments from folk who have thanked me for helping them make their choice. I don't work for a vacuum cleaner manufacturer or retailer, so if I give a model my thumbs up, it's based on my personal experience of using a particular cleaner in my home and not because I have anything to gain from it.

Anyway, I plan to keep my channel ibaisaic going from strength to strength, despite a brief period when I took all the videos down due to a nasty comment from one viewer. Now on the rare occasions I get a negative comment, I focus on all the people who enjoy my videos and who look forward to seeing anything new that I upload.

I realise that my hard core fans will watch the whole video, but I know that many casual viewers who are just looking for a new vacuum cleaner probably give up after a couple of minutes. I will still do the 40 plus minute videos because it normally takes me that length of time to go into the detail that some people want, but I will be adding many shorter videos with just main points and a quick demo.
The quickies won't feature the sweet little doggies, doubl enterndres or me going off on a tangent and talking about how it was in my day, they will just get to the point. This way I hope to keep the fans happy and satisfy the people who just need a brief review.

As for my grammar, I was brought up to speak proper, so I'm glad that comes accross in the videos😄

Roger, you've earned every word of my positive feedback and more. I'm glad you're here. I know it must take hours of work, not to mention a lot of money in purchases, to make a quality-dense, high-yield 50-minute video. Having understood that, I hope you'll make more and more. They're incomparable and invaluable, to be succinct.

Wow.

I can't believe what I just read here. :-(

You know, when it comes to the internet, I find that if you don't have something nice to say about someone you have never met in person, don't bother spending one second writing something critical or insulting. Just my opinion.

Roger: please ignore those posts. I am old enough to know (56) what real vanity looks like, and I for one don't see one drop of it in any of your videos. If anything, I see touches of self-deprecation that are endearing.

May you go from strength to strength, Mr. Sensotronic....

You guys can't take a hint, can you? I wiped some of the posts in this thread earlier this morning because they were out of line. That should have been a clue that what you had said was uncalled for. Instead, the same group of offenders came back and essentially posted more of the same nonsense. Patrick started a perfectly fine thread here, and the person who is the subect of this thread has also contributed. You have knowingly made comments in poor taste about him, within this thread, which is against the rules of this forum.

I agree 100% with Fred and I've absolutely had it with this nonsense on Vacuumland. To that group of offenders who can't take a hint I have my banning wand ready to go. Just try me. If you cannot say something nice, then find another website to say it, we're over it and it stops now. So if you don't agree with me, then save us both some work and go away for good.

Thank you Patrick for creating a great thread and it now can continue to be great without the chatter of pre-pubescence nonesense.

Guys let me say I'm disgusted with the behaviour shown here tonight and even more disgusted that the member who was banned has posted about her joys of being removed from this site on a Facebook page.

I wont tolerate it on that page as you wont tolerate it here.

I seriously hope Roger has not taken offence. What he's done for us collectors on youtube IS way above and beyond what most regular collectors do and the fact he shares it in a non egotistical way just shows what a top guy he is.

It is not a question of disagreeing but a question of how your present that disagreement in different wording. If intended to antagonise, then it is not appreciated. Simple as, Alex. Had you actually stated "I disagree," then it may well have presented an opinion that would have been granted and appeared valid.

It's not about disagreeing, it's about being rude to other members. If you can't be nice than you cannot be on this website. We have absolutely had it. There is the the old saying "if you can't say something nice, then don't say it all".<<---That's the new policy. There are a ton of nice, polite members on this site who are never rude to others. Then there is the small minority who can't help themselves and have no respect for others. Those are the members I'm going to target now and will be banned. Yes we all have opinions, but sometimes it's best to think it and not say it, that's the way I was raised as were most of us here.

Something has happened

sleepdoc's profile picture
I've spent twelve hours at work today taking care of patient while I'm trying to recover from a broken femur myself. The pain I'm in is beyond anything I've ever endured in my life. I'm taking some time to post additionally to this thread because something is amiss. I replied, briefly and earlier, to a post that characterized Roger as "vain." Those posts have disappeared, and my reply to those now sits a bit nonsensically, since its predicator is gone. Anyway, this thread was not intended to start a controversy. Ibaisaic is a person I don't know, haven't met in person, but appreciate and respect without having made his personal acquaintance, which I hope to make someday. I stand by my original post, which was written innocently, and also by my later reply to the effect that Roger's expertise does not make him vain or condescending. He speaks with a knowledgable voice. Any deference he receives is well deserved, including my own. I do not moderate this forum and have zero authority over other contributors. However, having said that, I started this thread to compliment someone, not to criticize him. Anyone's perception that he is anything other than a competent vacuum evaluator who puts forth incomparable effort for no profit is undermining the purpose of my writing.

To be blunt, this is why so many vacuum fora have failed in the past. Non-stop criticizing, any excuse to belittle someone, even if that person has gone to tremendous lengths to benefit the community. I'm frustrated. The moderators have my invitation to close this thread, as my compliments have been paid, and I don't want more discord with my name attached to it. I'm now embarrassed before Roger, which is not what I intended when I wrote the original post, and I now have to apologize to Roger, somehow, for the unruliness that has happened here.

Sleepdoc, please don't feel guilty or awkward for starting this thread. It was quite clearly done with the best of intentions, something those who commented negatively knew full well, but decided to ignore simply because they had an axe to grind. That does not reflect badly on you.

I don't know Roger personally but am a big fan of his videos. They're well shot and edited, informative, and sometimes completely off the wall (in a good way). Let's face it, vacuum collecting IS considered to be an unusual hobby by most, but evidently he knows that and embraces it fully. I've never detected any undertones of bragging or self-aggrandisement, just someone who enjoys what they do and wants to share that with others. It's all done in good spirit, and does not warrant any negativity.

Post# 323346 , Reply# 22   4/26/2015 at 03:53 (3,259 days old) by Sensotronic (Englandshire)

Fistly thank you to eveyone who has defended me against whoever made the nasty comments in this thread and as I told Patrick earlier in a private email, he has nothing to be apologetic for.

The only comment I saw was from Alex with the VAIN comment, so whatever else was said, it was Alex that started whatever unpleasantness occurred in the threads above and even if I don't get to find out who else joined in, the blame for me will always lay at Alex's door.

Alex used to be a Facebook friend of mine until recently when he overstepped the mark with comments regarding my beliefs on trying to live a cruelty free life and becomming a vegan. It is not the first time he has upset me on this matter, but I let it lie on more than one occassion accepting that we all have different views and beliefs. After the last heated debate on the matter, I again decided to let it drop and not fan the flames any longer, but when Alex posted a link on the Facebook thread entitled:
"4 Reasons Why Becoming A Vegetarian Is A Fu**ing Stupid Idea" it was the last straw and I blocked him on Facebook. I belive that had I not blocked Alex, this thread would not have escalated into the nasty name calling post it became resulting in a member being banned.

I would like to have the opportunity to defend myself against any specific comments, but as I didn't see them I can only use my imagination about what was said. I get it that some people don't get me or don't like my videos, but to be quite frank, I haven't spent hundreds of hours making and editing videos to let that put me off producing more for the people that do appreciate them. There are hundreds of vacuum videos on Youtube from collectors and enthusiasts who like to share their latest acquisitions and ibaisaic is just one of them. OK, the production values on some of the videos are a bit amateurish, but it doesn't make them any less interesting or valuable to the collecting community. I have the time and the equipment to make my videos as professional looking as I can, but many Youtubers only have a camera phone to film with so of course the finish result will not look quite as good. They are still making an effort to share their interest and should be applauded for doing so. I am flattered when fellow Youtubers ask for my advice on making their videos and I am pleased to give them some tips on how to make their finished video look a bit more polished, but I give them credit for having a go.

If I have unintentionally offended anyone with a comment made in a video or a forum then I apologise unreservedly. I do not enjoy conflict of any kind and avoid confrontations for want of a peaceful life, but I know that nobody can be universally liked and I accept that. I would have been very upset over any personal attacks against me in the past, but the people with negative comments do not know me and never will. The only people in my life whose opinions matter to me are the people who I love and who love me. Saying that, the supportive comments I get on my channel and on this thread do lift my spirits and make me want to keep making videos which I know many people look forward to watching.

Roger

Roger, IMO, I think your videos are great! You've reached both an audience of collectors and general consumers which isn't an easy thing to do. And whether one is a fan of the content of your videos or not, everyone should appreciate the time and effort that you put into them.

You're never going to please everyone, but your fans far outnumber the negativitity.

Bravo and keep it up :).

Im sorry if I have to re-open this hornets nest again. Im not sorry that I didn't stay around online to witness whatever occurred in this post regarding the abuse and necessity to block one UK member. But I am sorry for the member who was falsely accused here.

It was Roger who inspired me to do video product reviews. I much prefer worded reviews though; I feel far more comfortable doing that. Roger is far from Vain.

However, now that Roger has had a chance to offer his side of what should be a personal business between him and another UK member on this site clearly outlines how things can escalate when the more basic, primary connection is that of sharing the love of vacuums.

Yes things can get out of hand; a social site outside of this network forum should have little to do with one another. But when adding a single word that was obviously designed to antagonise, it went in the way it was supposed to be directed as per its meaning.

Vain doesn't just mean big headed. It means something that doesn't offer any worth.

Clearly that is totally out of the question when watching any of Roger's videos. His videos are clear cut and cleanly explained, quite literally.

The next time a post pops up on this site, think carefully of words you might want to offer up, Alex. Check out their meaning beforehand before offering it up, though!

For once can we have a thread without nastiness and bitching? Roger's work is entertaining and educational! To be honest I don't get why we can't just discuss vacuums and NOT bring in our personal lives, that's when people overstep the mark! Roger's vegan? Great for him! I'm autistic? Great for me. Let's leave our differences aside and enjoy talking about a simple household appliance. Believe me, not many people in "real life" are willing to...

As the individual who started this thread

sleepdoc's profile picture
...I simply don't understand how anyone could infer something negative about Roger's character or manners from his videos. These videos are the best reviews I've ever seen. His finished products are 40-50 minutes. I've never done anything like this, but I assume that a finished, edited 45-minute video involves at least a few hours of work in arranging, filming, editing, and uploading. Additionally, he has to buy all these vacuums to test. Mieles, Dysons, and Sebos are expensive. Further still, he does research on other models, so when he reviews a machine, he also knows details about other models in a company's lineup in order to describe a variation of the model he is reviewing that could be a better fit for someone with particular needs. I truly have zero criticism of Roger and his work, although part of me wishes I hadn't started this thread.

Please stop beating yourself up Patrick. Nobody reading this thread will feel that there is any blame at your door from some ill conceived comments made by a couple of people. I was flattered by your praise and the possitive comments from the other members who contributed, so let's just draw a line under the whole matter and carry on sharing our knowledge and enthusiasm for vacuum cleaners.

In a way it's a good thing that has happened because now Fred and Robert have made it clear that they won't tollerate any nasty comments directed at other members of Vacuumland, so going forward this site will hopefully have a much nicer atmosphere. Look, we are in a minority here, many of us are in two minority groups, so if we can't all get along on a forum where we have a common bond, what hope is there?

Anyway, thime to go. My bag of filth won't spread itself.😜

Coming soon on ibaisaic

To to round off this thread, I have had a few people saying to me that they hope I won't leave Vacuumland or stop making videos for my channel. Well to put their minds at rest, here's a few photos of some of the vacuum cleaners that will be featured on ibaisaic in the next few months.

I also intend to revisit some old favourites and make some updated videos on the Hoover Vortex, Turbopower 2, Telios Pets, Maytag Satellite, Hoover Microspace and many more.

To my subscribers, thank you for all your support and kind comments over the past few years. Without you watching and commenting, there wouldn't be much point in making these videos.

See you on Youtube😃

My Apology

Dear Everyone

I just wanted to let you all know that
I wanted to apologize for what I said to Roger and everyone else involved.
I spoke without thinking and didn't take everyones feelings into consideration.
There’s no arguing that what I said was lousy, selfish etc,
and I want to make sure you know that I recognize that and feel horrible about it.

What I did was horribly inappropriate, disrespectful, and wildly selfish.

I did all of this without thinking and then obviously ended up getting me to where i am now.
I do not hate Roger at all and i hope he continues to make videos for all to see and enjoy.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and i have learned from my mistake.

The states had one in the 1990's called the "Singer Spot Cop." It was a little underpowered but ok for small spots.
