Steve has a collection of machines (toys???) that all scare the crap out of me. I want something that I can pull out of the closet and get the dog hair off of the hard floors (linoleum and hardwood) downstairs without needing an engineering degree ... and without fear of damaging an expensive / complicated machine. What is a good, reliable, easy to use machine for my purposes??? I was going to get a cordless 'electric broom' kind of thing but haven't got a clue what to look for. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Cheers!
Craig

My recommendations.

Hoover Linx cordless stick vacuum. Has a lithium ion battery, brushroll for carpets that can be turned off for hard floors, it's also bagless with washable filter. You should also check out the Hoover Air cordless.

I had both, the Hoover did not do that well on the floors compared to the Dyson.Mom loves the Hoover now though! She only has carpet.

Get the Swiffer Vac for only $50! Great on bare floors! It's a combination Swiffer Mop and cordless dustbuster on a stick: The front suction channel picks up all the large dirt and hairs, while the disposable Swiffer pad wipes up all the fine electrostatic dust that suction can't remove. Very light and easy to manouever with its articulating neck. My 88 year old mom swears by it! We keep the dust bin filter clean by giving it a once over weekly with the end of a regular vacuum hose.

Similar to the Swiffer is the Dirt Devil Vac + Dust. You can get it with or with out a cord. It has a reusable, washable microfiber pad.

The Riccar Sunburst is a nice little canister vacuum with an awesome bare floor tool. I bought one for my mom to go with her 9-lb Riccar upright. Here's a link to a picture: shop.riccar.com/p/sunburst-canist...
