Does the Kirby have HEPA filtration?

I know the latest cloth bags claim to be HEPA but are they?

A Miele bag has 9 layers but still has a pleated HEPA filter.

If the Kirby cloth bag is HEPA why does the outer bag get dirty?

I would like to hear your views.

By the way, yes, the Kirby uses HEPA bags in the same way Numatic do.

Yes but I'm still not convinced. But well spotted Chris I'm glad you take notice :-)

Yes but Numatic have a microtex pre motor filter for allergy sufferers and they also do models with a pre motor filter and HEPA post motor filter as well as a bag.

This is my point.

Yes much.:-) But my point is can a bag alone offer HEPA filtration?

Isn't a bag plus pre motor filter and post motor filter going to be a better filtration system?

Can a bag alone cut it?

My understanding is it's a combination of the inner and outer bags.

Is it true sealed HEPA

I would not call it that, but the filtration is very good.

The Micron Magic bags are seven layer filtrate materials. The new poly cloth bags are exceptional. The outer bag is a final filter, much like a exhaust filter. Very easy to vacuum out and clean, or in bad situations they have been washed with success.

In reality we aren't picking up smallpox in a lab, or nuclear waste at a reactor, so what filteration a vacuum offers is usually adequate in a household use.

One thing with Kirby bags, as some have mentioned, they are large and in some instances take on that "stale bag" smell; especially if you have pets.

Because there isn't a carbon after filter to help control bag odor, you can use their product Odorific, or do as I do an change the bags more frequently. I rarely fill a bag full. The Micron Magic bags are not that expensive online, and the Poly bags, though costlier are still in line with the cost of other premium vacuum bags. I just purchased a package of six for $15. free shipping. That is about $2.50 per bag.

Yes that is good value for such big bags.

No we are not picking up nuclear waste :-) But microscopic dust, mold and animal dander that can cause problems for many people.

These bags

do pretty well with Dust, Mold, Dander, pollen. I am pretty allergen reactive with mold being my number one trigger, and have not had any problems with these bags.

That is good to hear :-)

I may visit the guy on ebay who sells some nice used models.

He lives quite close to me.

Mark, In the video Chris referenced in reply #1 I found that that video was faked. The Kirby Sentria had no inner bag installed. I have seen another video on Youtube where the particle meter read almost 0 when testing the G6 or G7 with the new Kirby inner bag. Goto the first two links to read all about Kirby's excellent H11 filtration, then watch the video below that.

I've picked up an unopened 9 pack of Kirby Micron Magic HEPA bags at Goodwill for $1.99. You do run across them every so often.

Or you could just buy one of these....lol

Who in their right mind would fit a clogging, filthy pleated filter containing bagless conversion ....I'd love to see a particle counter next to this!!!
