I believe the month and year of manufacture are encoded into the serial number. For a more broad look at the chronology, this page might be helpful:

What model is your vacuum?

The 10 digit serial number on ALL G series Kirbys (G3, G4, G5, G6, Ultimate G, Diamond Edition, Sentria and Sentria II) is engraved into the aluminum on the side of the Kirby, right above where the cloth bag attaches to the machine. This serial number contains the EXACT manufacture date of the machine.

The first number in the serial number pertains to the factory it was made at. The second and third number is the year of manufacture. The fourth and fifth numbers are the month of manufacture. The rest of the serial number tells you what number in production it was for that month and year.

FOR EXAMPLE.... in the serial number 1071104984, the machine was manufactured in November of 2007 and was the 4984th Kirby manufactured in Cleveland in that particular month.

For older vac serial codes from 1965-1981

Dual Sanitronic '50' (April 1965 - August 1967)
A= April 1965 - May 1966
B= June - December 1966
D= January - August 1967

Dual Sanitronic '80' (September 1967 - Late 1969)
A= September 1967 - May 1968
No letter used in serial number after May 1968

Classic 1-CR (December 1969 - June 1973)
R= December 1969 - June 1970
S= July - December 1970
T= January - December 1971
A= January - August 1972
B= September 1972 - June 1973

Classic Omega 1-CB (July 1973 - June 1976)
M= July - December 1973 (Gold Bag)
N= January - September 1974 (Pinstriped Bag)
P= October 1974 - September 1975 (Diamondback Bag)
R= September 1975 - June 1976 (Diamondback Bag)

Classic III 2-CB (July 1976 - June 1979)
A= July - December 1976
B= January - July 1977
C= July - December 1977
D= January 1978 - August 1978
E= September 1978 - June 1979

Tradition 3-CB (July 1979 - August 1981)

Thanks for the information.

Were the serials before the Dual Sanitronic only #s or were they coded somehow, too?

Do you have a list of serials and time periods like that for Electrolux machines?

Kirby Serial Numbers

Mike,

I have a Kirby G5, with the serial number 2980705289.  Using the information provided in your post, would I be correct in saying that my machine was made at the Andrews, TX plant in July, 1998, and was the 5,289th machine off the production line at that time?

I have an issue with this information.

I just got a Sentria II with a serial number of 2100905057.

According to this info that means it was made in September 2010. But Kirby says the Sentria II did not start production until 2012?

May I see a picture of this Sentria II?
It could be that it was either a Sentria redressed as a Sentria II. Or someone used Sentria parts to fix this Sentria II.
