Hi I nearly Bought a Electrolux Boss Vacuum Cleaner in the early 200's. They were made by Eureka, Looked good, but there current range is so poor and made in China

When was the Boss dropped I think 2002

"The Boss" were indeed made by Eureka. Initially, they were branded "Electrolux The Boss", but after a few years, Lux used "The Boss" as it's own brand. They were still on sale in one form or another as late as 2008, although by that point, they were pretty budget.

Incidentally, there are currently no "The Boss" branded machines or "Electrolux" branding on the UK market. High end Lux machines are badged AEG and low end are badged Zanussi.

Oh thanks for that. I have seen the Zanussi Machines, and appear not well made. The AEG Look Okay but few are far between

The marketing label "The Boss" was invented by Eureka in the 1980's to denote a basic, powerful vacuum with not too many extras or "bells and whistles". Eureka usually slapped the name on the black version of any of its vacuum cleaners: from uprights and canisters, to handvacs and stickvacs. It really didn't represent anything more than a label to represent the "basic" model in a line-up...much like Hoover's overuse of the label TurboPower on so many of its vacs.

So I guess parent company Electrolux decided to slap the name on some of the American made vacs they began to sell in Europe, such as the Eureka "Boss" Victory upright.

The very early models of this style were branded Electrolux Powerline, they were sturdy and cleaned very well, they were also made in the USA, I believe these style machine were branded Eureka Victory in the USA.

Needless to say, these style cleaners came under a few names, the bagged models were branded, Powerline, Widetrack, Smart vac, The boss, bagless variants (which by the way were AWFUL) came under names such as Cyclone power, The Boss Cyclonic etc.

Originally these vacs were branded Powerline in the UK and were first seen in 1997. I have the most basic model of the original Powerline model Z1361, mine dates from from 1998.

I did have one a while back that I got off a fellow collector, which was green, the model escapes me! It had a stair cleaning hose and an accessible exhaust filter, both of which my Z1361 does not have, but I do like the colour of this one. I also had a red Widetrack not to long ago, but I sold it as I was not that keen on it.

I also had the Widetrack, which was a Powerline but with a 15" nozzle instead of a 12".

Here is my Electrolux Powerline Z1361, the colour of it in this photo is a lot darker than it's true colour, but it is a lovely teal blue.
