240v to 110v transformer advice needed |

Hi all,
Thought I'd broaden my search to the USA for a fabulous upright vacuum as I very much like the look of the 60's / 70's Eurekas. The vacuum will be a working one at our weekend house and being 240v in NZ i will need a transformer. I've looked on Amazon which has confused me with such a variation in prices, one transformer states up to 1875 watts, ideal for hairdryers but not suitable for TV's, kitchen appliances etc. Is there such a transformer that will take a 1000 watt load, is compact and suitable for vacuum cleaners. Any advice is greatfully appreciated as I dont know where to start with them. Cheers Mike | ||

Hey Mike
Make sure you get an actual transformer. A lot of the small ones do it with just electronics and are not very good for motors. Ebay England usually has them up as England requires tools on construction sites to be 110V to make it safer. You would have to get an adapter for the plugs though. In South Africa we have 220v aswell.
I bough a huge set up and have 110v in my home aswell. I would get the most decent one you can get. I got a 20amp step down 2000watt transformer as a portable one. Remember depending on what model and how new some USA machines can run up to 12 amps. To put this in perspective I have two identical Hoover wind tunnels, One from Australia is a 1350watt 220v running at 5 amps. Pretty normal for a 220v machine. My USA version is also a 1300 watt but runs at a actual 11 amp. I have cooked so many transformers and even some big ones can only handle 6 amps. I have 20 110V usa machines | ||
