I went onto www.dyson.com..., and I've noticed something new:
Following the release of vacuums with Cinetic science, Dyson has updated and rebranded their older machines. One big change was the removal of model numbers from the "new" machines. For example, the Dyson DC50 Animal is now known as the "Dyson Ball Compact Animal." Dyson DC40 Multi Floor is now "Dyson Ball Multi Floor." It has some changes: a 25% stronger brush bar motor, heavier weight (17.35 lbs) and a longer cord (30 ft). One new machine is the "Dyson Ball Allergy." It looks like the DC65, but has a blue cyclone top and extra tools for allergy sufferers. As for canisters, the Dyson DC39 Origin has been renamed to "Dyson Ball Multi Floor," and the DC47 Animal is now "Dyson Ball Compact Animal." In addition, the DC65 has been discontinued. This is an unusual move for Dyson's US branch, as they have marketed machines with the model number since the very beginning (DC07 launched in late 2002 in the US). What do you think of these changes? |

I hate it! Stick to DC IMHO. So easy to recognise a model that way |

Then numbers didn't make much sense either. |

I don't really like the removal of the numbers, at the repair shop I work for that's out main way of identifying dysons.
Another note, the new dc40, or ball multifloor, is actually just the dc65.

I'm not particularly fond of this change, as the old DCxx system made it much easier to identify Dyson vacuums.
And the Ball Multifloor vacuum looks like the DC65 with a shorter cord. This new naming system would be like naming an iPhone 6 Plus the "iPhone Huge Screen" and an iPhone 5c the "iPhone Plastic." This approach is far less than great. Model numbers are the best way to identify products. HVRVACLVR, the brush bar on the new Dyson Ball Multi Floor vacuum is 25% stronger, so it'll do a better job cleaning than your DC40. |

niclonnic "This new naming system would be like naming an iPhone 6 Plus the "iPhone Huge Screen" and an iPhone 5c the "iPhone Plastic." This approach is far less than great. Model numbers are the best way to identify products." I agree 1000000% with what you say here.
I did email Dyson to ask if they would be willing to exchange my DC40 with the Ball Multi Floor. They said "We value you as our customer and greatly appreciate your continued support in our technology. In regards to your inquiry, we are more than happy to exchange your DC40 for a full size upright. I have reached out to the appropriate parties to verify our stock. Once we receive an response, we will be able to provide additional assistance. Thank you for your time." So hopefully I will get a Dyson Upright that I am happy with! |

Dyson Ball Compact?? Why not Dyson Little Ball? It's a better match with Dyson Big Ball. |

It's been awhile since I posted on this thread.
It's good to hear that you're enjoying your DC65! Which model did you get? Multi Floor (silver), Animal (purple) or Animal Complete (pink)? It would be even more awesome if they sent you a Cinetic Big Ball upright! With the new Cinetic science, Dyson seemed to take their cyclone technology and put it on crack while also eliminating filter maintenance! |

@niclonnic;
It funny you mention Dyson and Apple being similar in term of loyal customers. Think it was an interview with James Dyson on fox news or something, he said him and Steve Jobs actually got on very well with each other and admired each other company nd products. Both are similar in terms of their approach being very different. Two companies who went against the status quo of their respected industries. Dyson said that they would send each other their new products to try out etc. In a written interview, he said dyson employees got the opportunity of getting apple products at a big reduced price, possibly the same with apple. Basically both companies supported each other in that sense. Dyson are a great company, but I prefer the DC XX naming. They still have that naming system in the UK, hopefully that will stay the same. |
