Hey guys,

this was another, being in the right place at the right time. With a visit to a charity shop, I found this Hoover Turbo Power2. Haven had the Turbo power 3 at home that needed a hose, I thought well let me take it, there will always be a space somewhere for a hoover or Kirby.

Hence getting home, I was surprised to see that the machine had very little signs of usage, and was particularly surprised that the final inspection label, the instructional aid, underneath was intact.

The brush roll needed cleaning and the bearings on the brush roll, cried out that they are in the desert in need of grease, but either than that as smooth as new.

I replaced the filters and filter bag, drive belt cleaned it and when opening the motor compartment it was clean. There was more dust gathered on the outside of the machine from standing unused, than inside, hence the collection compartment included.

It is a remarkable machine, and fascinates me when you switch it on it starts off at a slight above usual speed, and then adjusting to the speed required for upright cleaning. When passing over debris the sensor acknowledges it and change the speed to the orange light, the next, and also higher speed. Once the debris is cleared, the machine automatically switches to green, a lower speed.

Should you need the entire 1000W for using of tools, by activating the highest speed, you push a button, changing the light to the next light, being red. It has an amazing suction, however I do find that it does not pick up the carpet at the corners like older models do.

On board accessories, this was too wonderful. HAHAHAHAHA It does have its limitations which was sorted out in the turbo power 3, like when the stretch hose were used the machine may fall over, but it was not the end of the world if you know how to take care and look out for your Hoover.

Am I mistaken by saying that this was the first Hoover model that used the fan suction pulling suction through the bag, as appose to the dirty fan system from previous models, where first passed through the blades of the fan?

It has a double pre motor filtration system, and an extra double post motor, and then of course the paper filter bag.

Many Thanks
Adrian.

Ah, yes, the Turbopower 2 Autosense.

I always hated the autosense feature. I would've much rather had 3 stage manual variable power, but I guess this gave Hoover a marketing gimmick to promote the crap out of. I prefered the basic models with no autosense - it was like using one in the middle setting permanently.

These were launched in 1992 and were Hoover's first clean air machine since the Convertable/Dial-A-Matic was discontinued in the early 70's.

The one you have is a later model - 1994 onwards. The earlier models had a narrower hose end and the cable entering into the back of the machine rather than the top.

dear Turbo 500,

Yes I agree with you, and have a great respect for the knowledge you have. You certainly do have the know how.

I tend to agree with you on the autosense gimmick, hahahah and I thought I was the only one, however for a child the graphic of lights is the interest not the suction.

It does feel as if the machine has no "oemf" when the speed of the motor decrease, although at the decreased speed it is still more powerful than the predecessors at the top speed of 410W or 575W straight Suction tool usage. I guess it is all the state of mind, that the machine should screech at a high frequency making it sound like it has an incredible suction. HAHAHAHAHAHA.

We did not have the other models on the South-African market, just the autosense.

Although I have noticed your Forte or love is Miele, you are quite a rocket on Hoover. I am still to post the Hoover Elite/Legacy, American made, sold here in South-Africa, but that has to remain for the moment being, as Most of my machines are repacked in their original boxes and sitting in the storeroom. Hence being an accountant, I can fully enjoy my passion in spare time, however would be on cloud nine, if like Gareth and other members could live my passion and interest on a 24 hour clock.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge, I really appreciate it and love learning more. There is a guy, member of Vacuum land who has a to die for collection of Turbo powers, 1, 2, and 3. The comprehensive range and in absolute stunning, spotless condition. Each machine stated in a photo taken next to a beautiful fireplace. That is a motivation in itself.

Adrian.

Interesting that the SA versions are 1000 watts - in the UK the original Turbopower2 was 800 watts.
