An ebay seller had a "Kirby Vacuum Cleaning System 1952" on eBay. He had re-listed it several times because no one ever bid on it.

That for sure is because his opening bid of $79.95 and a buy-it-now of $179.95 scared bidders away -- despite the fact that had he started at a lower opening amount, it's very possible that a bidding war could have driven it way higher than that!

The set looked very nice and was complete, albeit with some minor problems that also may have tended to discourage bidders who don't have any spare parts -- the handle was whacked and the cord was taped around where the metal loop connects it to the handle. Other than that, it was in really good condition.

What caught my eye was the bag -- it was a later replacement 514/515 bag that looked to be practically new. The color was dark and non-faded and the logo lettering looked to be perfect.

After the auction ended a third time with no buyers I couldn't stand it anymore! I contacted the seller about it, noting that he hadn't gotten any bidders. That being the case, would he be willing to sell me just the bag? I made him a very good offer plus shipping, because I really wanted it!!

Well, he wrote back and said sure, it's a deal. So I PayPal'd him the dough and the bag arrived today. He sent the bag and Sani-emptor because he was afraid to try to remove the bag and risk damaging it. Smart boy!!

Feast your eyes on this gorgeous bag! I can't remember when I've seen a more perfect specimen since my childhood. It's exactly as I remember those bags -- very dark slate gray against which the silver and red lettering really stand out, very pronounced and almost glowing.

I've posted the link to the auction, in case you're interested in seeing it.

That bag is so beautiful that I just can't stop staring at it!!

(P.S.:, No, I did not feel the least bit bad about "breaking up the set" since it was not the original bag. The seller might re-list the machine with a lower opening bid, so someone might still be able to get it.)

Makes me think of the Kirby vacuum we had when I was very little-510 or 511 similar type bag.Do you have the proper Kirby to use it on?Then besides looking at it--you could USE it!Just dump it out after each use-don't store dirt in the bag.
