What's about the size of a VHS camcorder, supposedly weighs 5 pounds, and sucks like crazy? Answer: The $5.00 Oreck XL portable from St Vincent De Paul in Vero Beach. I'm missing a wand, the crevice tool, and the dust brush. I got three or more Oreck disposable bags with it for free. I picked it up a couple of weeks ago, and just now got to showing it off.

Alan,

You will find that vacuum very handy for quick pick ups and if you have hard wood floors, Oreck has a good bare floor tool.

I have the top of the line XL Buster B...it seems to work just fine. The bag does fill and cut the suction quickly, but not a problem for me..put in a new bag and right back at it.

Have not figured out why they don't use the cloth filtrete type bag like they have for the uprights..

Morgan

My house was all terrazzo floors, but now is terrazzo bedrooms, vinyl kitchen and bath, carpet in hall/living/dining, and I have some swell generic tools. I would like to find the correct parts, and I'll keep an eye out for the Oreck floor brush. This was quite effective in the kitchen.

Does Oreck make those or that one... or are they rebadged Eureka or GE's ?

It's not the GE type, maybe a Eureka design, but I think Oreck might have used their own imagination for a change. It cleans like a full size vacuum. The site notes says it has a 42 inch hose. That's its only drawback. I had a grey GE with the carrying kit and all the tools, gave it to my boss one year. Wish I hadn't.

Good Find Alan

Great price too,I found a white one the other day, they wanted 19.99 for it, all the other hand vacs were priced 9.99 so I told the clerk and she said 9.99 it is then,I think it was used very little, here it is with my other thrift store Oreck upright,I've had it for Quite a while,it was about 9.99 also, but was well used,I had to replace the fan housing and brush roller, parts on e-bay are really inexpensive so I have about 40.00 in it all together and it works like new,It's a two speed model,on low it's gentle on throw rugs and on high it really grooms carpets well,I never really cared for Oreck's untill I found ths one,the helping hand handle and it's light weight make for very easy vacuuming. Cat in the box

Cassie couldn't wait for me to take the vac out so she could get in the box.

Both of your Orecks are beautiful, and congrats on the $9.99 one. It looks like it has the floor tool Morgan mentioned in his comment. You actually got a better deal at your price because you have all of the parts I'm missing. My floor tool is a fancy Oreck combination rug/bare floor item. Cassie looks so smug, bless her heart!

That is the bare floor tool I was talking about. It works very well. That one looks like it may have a vinyl brush, mine is horse hair. Mine also has a Hepa filter on the back, so it is quieter than the other models.
