Well, it's that time again. WEATHER permitting, the post-Christmas meet is set for SAt, Jan 31. It will be the FINAL event here before all of the Christmas things come down. Dinner plans, activities, etc...........
So far, 6 guests are on the list.
I know it'll be fun.

several of us within a 45 minute distance, thus, enabling a nice group to attend.
It would be nice for some of the folks from farther away to attend these. But, I'll make sure there are tons of photos capturing all of the fun and excitement. I think instead of "Italian" cuisine, this time, we might focus on something more "Southern" as my late dad was from the South. I did that when my sister and family were here Dec 27... much to their pleasant surprise!

Sorry for delay. Work schedule is wierd. Life is a roller coaster. I just spoke to Chris and he is coming. He and I are working on another possible vacuum exchange. The Hoover Convertible Elite that I got last time has sadly failed me. It's currently sitting in my basement with many parts disassembled. TJ and I are using his Windtunnel canister in many of the buildings that he and I service. I have 3 of my vacuums in 2 accounts of ours. It's nuts, I need a good, powerful, widepath machine.

Will be nice to see everyone.

Well, if all goes as planned....................

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
15 will be here. Maybe we could call Guinness World Records.. largest mini meet. Wouldn't that be silly?
The last "holiday" dinner here was last night. 4 co workers and I enjoyed chicken Parmesean, cavatappi, etc.. I put the lights on again. to better find the house. None had ever been here before. All had a good time. They asked about the "HOOVER thing". I went into careful detail about the Company, Boss Hoover, the vault, my involvement w/ the co, etc. They have a much better understanding of it now........ They asked, "Oh, can we please see the collection"? Of course, it's not all "together" yet. But, when touring the house, (only the public rooms", they saw 10 in the upstairs hall. luckily, the array of models had impressive historically pertinence to them. They laughed,, only for a minute. THEN, it ALL made sense.
Of course, it's my home, my collection, and my friends. To those who "don't get me", appeciate my, like me, etc" I really don't "give a s**t" anymore. That's one of the blessings that comes as we get older.
These co workers, like me, liked the meal, the tree(s), even the HOOVERS. It was a "win/win" all around.
The same will happen at the "meet". If you make it to the house, it's because I want you here.. to enjoy food, fun, vacuums (even the non-HOOVER species).
2 weeks and counting. I now can start selecting "choice vacuums" to bring out. yay!

us, especially if members can't make the conventions. I'm fortunate that many of us can get here with relative ease. We laugh from the first minute until the door closes after the last one returns home. Of course, IF you've met Mike Gravelin,,,,, may I call you Mike??? Amazing, how people think I'm taller... or should be taller.
The sound of all those cleaners and the talking and the laughter is very nice in this old house. Later in the night, Arthur and Murphy come downstairs for a visit. THAT many people and ALL those vacuums are a bit of an "overload" for them. But, they do think, evenyually, that everyone comes here to visit them.

IF there ARE 15 guests, I'll have a lot to do. I'm thinking a "display" area for some "vault" machines... not ALL of them, can't fit 25 with 3 trees, etc.
AND, I'm thinking of a "sale area", "free pile", and, a few wrapped "gifts", plus........
I may rethink the "Southern fried chicken"........might be just too much for 15 people, plus run the meet.
A few rules, of course, will be enforced.
A: No smoking
B: If a door is closed, it's closed for a reason.
And, so on...........

Last night, 5 friends came here for pizza.
Now, all the focus is on the mini (mega?) meet. The guest list is still beintg nailed down. Charlie Watrous, a.k.a. "Helen Lawson" might be here. Hopefully, he can tell the guys a little about dear Terry, one of the kindest men who ever graced the planet. No one visiting had met him except for me. I'll have one of his "coffee cans" on display.
The menu might be tweaked a bit to accommodate the crowd.
A week from now, it will be over. :((
But. the plans are in full force.
I trust everyone will enjoy themselves. As of now, I THINK there will be 16 attendees.
Let the games begin!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
And, I promise, among all of us, tons of photos will be taken.
PREP pics will appear shortly.

Ralph,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I was not employed by The Hoover Company. I've been there NUMEROUS times. I now am very close friends with many past and present employees. I DID act as a docent at The Hoover Historical Center. It is the vacuum museum opened by The Hoover Company, now owned by Walsh Univeristy. It is the university's own museum, as they now have a degree in Museum Studies.Contrary to argument, it IS a full fledged museum, although I will NOT argue that point, at all.
I've been in ALL of the Hoover buildings, opened and closed. I even spent LOTS of time at the beautiful "main factory and offices" on Maple Street. I'm very welcome in that town AND in their "world of Hoover".I've also been all through TTI.And, plan to return this year.
So, I asked them, when they entered me into the Employees' storefile, 'What, exactly did I DO at Hoover"? They replied, 'PR". We all laughed.
I hope that answered your question.
John.

That was very kind of you to say that. I often thought about how different life would have been if I had looked into employment there years ago. I might be, A: out of a job, or B: working for TTI. Perhaps still not too late.
I apprecaite that a lot.
John

In all seriousness, i don't see why TTI doesn't use someone like you for the Hoover line in a marketing campaign. When I saw the pictures of you and Matt trying out 20 different Hoovers in your house, it seemed like an outline for a perfect commercial with some personality. Dyson has James Dyson, Shark has the fat bald guy - who does Hoover have?

Well,

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
I thank you BOTH for those compliments. I'd never brag, and my entire "collection", as extensive as it has become, is not all together, perfect for viewing in it's entirety. Anyone who has a collection knows how long it takes or has taken.
Including coffee pots, blenders, toasters, irons, rotisseries, toaster ovens, electric blankets, irons, electric knives, waffle bakers, fondue pots, mixers, hair dryers, polishers, AND vacuum cleaners, there are at least 450 HOOVER products in this old house. I also am proud of having a lot of memorabillia... posters, ads, screwdrivers, thimbles, frisbees, pens, oil cans, matches, staplers, typewriters, letter openers, shirts, mugs, a salesman's case, candle snuffer, tree ornaments, brochures, etc.
My close friend, Tom Anderson, who lives in North Canton, has, probably the largest, most complete collection of "all things HOOVER". HE was MY inspiration.... if ever I'd imitate ANYONE, he would be it. He has helped my know so much about the Hoover Company, and has introduced me to a wonderful world.
Because of that, I enjoy entertaining people in my home and sharing all of it with them.

Groceries are all in. laundry is done. 3 trees are still up. !!
15 Hoovers will adorn that blasted staircase tomorrow. Several "items" are in the 'giveaway' area, other thing are wrapped. Gallons of iced tea will be made tomorrow p.m. I communicated w/ Bill and "Zippy", and Matt and Greg. Sadly, greg has brochitis and can't travel to this meet. NEXT time, I'm sure. Air Cleaning or Holy Water....

durango159's profile picture
I apologize for the last minute thought John, but I've decided to bring my Rainbow. It's a machine that is still basically new and unless one has experienced a demo then chances are slim that they've tried this one. I know when I first started working for Rainbow, Matt was excited about that machine. Not sure if Matt has seen once since then but all will have a chance on Saturday!

It will provide as our air cleaner for the evening and if anyone decides to hook up a hose or power nozzle to it for a test spin, then by all means!!

Of course a Hoover will accompany me as well. As you may imagine since I am a canister vac lover, then YES it's a Hoover Canister vac. Here's a hint: Chris is bringing me a brush roll that I've ordered for it as it's in desperate need!! Once that's installed it's free for all to try and enjoy!

Looking forward to seeing everyone in a few hours. I'm excited! This MiniMeet sounds huge, so I'm drastically cut down how many cleaners I'm bringing so there is room for other friends and the machines they wish to bring as well!

I woke up to a very nice smelling house.

gottahaveahoove's profile picture
The Crockpots went on 'simmer" last night. Funny, LAST week, I was called by someone who used to be in here, no longer, asking me what was being served. These calls are a surprise as, we had a very dark time a while back. Hm, seems another "sinilar" meal was prepared at an different location. I guess that imitation thing....... well, who cares? Good food is good food, right?

Anyway, last night, as I was falling asleep, I heard a LOUD noise. I got up and checked eveywhere. In a spare bedroom, "Bill will sleep there tonight", 4 vacuums had fallen. No HOOVERS were injured, thank God.
This morning, in a bathroom, all of the towels were on the floor. I also had adream about my late mother last night. Seems like the place is a bit more 'animated' than usual.
If this is any indication of what's coming up today................... The camera is emptied and ready to go.

Please say "Hi" to everyone for me and give them my best wishes for a great time.  Was hoping to meet Bill W. this weekend.  He only lives about 5-6 miles away from us.  Will have to meet for coffee or something.

Looking forward to seeing pictures!

We are having boneless bbq ribs in the crockpot, biscuits, coleslaw, baked beans, assorted chips and dip such as a pimento cheese dip, served all in fine dinnerware and HOOVER hoods!! More to come

Host us so gracioucly at you beautiful home this morning.
The New Youk "bunch" arrived home at around 2:00 a.m.

A great time was indeed had by all.

As John said above, I arrived early (about 12:30) to chat and catch up for a bit, as I had to leave at 3pm to get to work at the Cathedral downtown. After I was finished, I happily went back for more "fun" and to see the rest of the group, as only Bill Wood and Joe Kassock had arrived by the time I left.

It was absolutely wonderful to catch up with old friends, with people I haven't seen in YEARS, and to meet new friends as well.

Thanks for your hospitality, John! I still can't believe that I was up until 2am talking with you, Rob Shore, and Bill!

Are we still on for dinner on Tuesday? I look forward to chatting some more.

Your mini convention was, as always, a roaring success.

Happy Hoovering, all!

Oh boy, what a terrific weekend this was!

As always, another successful get-together at John's.  Good food, great camaraderie, loads of laughter, and HOOVERS!  And -- an unexpected and very delicious brunch at Mark & J.T.'s that was most pleasant and enjoyable.

My photos follow: many thanks to John, Mark, and J.T. for their hospitality.  I cherish the friendships that I made as much as the ones I renewed this weekend: here's to the next get-together, wherever it may be.

Oh, and Greg: I do hope you're feeling better!  I was looking forward to meeting you as well this time around.  We can definitely get together anytime for coffee if you'd like -- feel free to e-mail me.

All my best to everyone!

Alway a great happening, at John's !

John, looks like a bunch of fun as always when at you home ! I have known you for over 7 years now. I know you never disappoint a Vacuum Collector. Would have loved to be there. As well as to help driving with Luke. But just did not think about it being time for your Hoover review mini meet! So did not email Luke until the 31st. Not knowing that he was long gone !
Take Care, so glad it was a fine time ! Maybe next time !

Thank you to everyone!!! It was marvelous to see old friends and meet new!! Greg, and Kevin it will be great to see both of you over the summer!!

Mark and JT, as always THANK YOU SO MUCH for your hospitality!!! Your kindness and open invitation is tremendously appreciated! Breakfast was fantastic and a wonderful surprise to wake up to! As always I was again blown away by the exciting new things that your creative minds to decide to whip up at various meals!!

John, you are a terrific host. I am sure I can speak for everyone when I say that we all GREATLY appreciate your invitation and open your house up for so many to attend. Your Hoover collection is great and it's always a great surprise to see what models you selected to line the stair case. This is one event where you never have to worry about your home looking spot free prior to the event--- I think we actually prefer if the carpets and floors loaded with dirt--because we love finding dirt on the floors of which we can test various vacuums with. However, we know you will never have a dirty home and that we would not want to take away from your Hoover experiences!! After all, you do have quite the fantastic array of machines to choose from.

This MiniMeet especially your home recieved quite a bit of vacuuming. The dining room alone got fully Filter Queened by Mike Gravelin with his own machine, followed by a Hoover Concept run by Matt Geda using Bill Woods Concept. For those who don't know, Matt's favorite Hoover is a Concept! The living room sofa area got a decent Eureka Powerline canister run by several followed by runs by JC Penney gorgeous Convertible and a Concept. The main living room was vacuumed by Robert Coonradt's astounding condition British Hoover Convertible, Greg Palmer's Brand New out of the box Simplicity Freedom, my Rainbow E2 and more.... OF COURSE!!!!

Congratulations to Joe Kassock-- he took home a "Dream Machine" from the meet!! A while back he had spoken to Chris regarding a special Self Propelled Hoover D.A.M and on Saturday night, Chris delivered! The machine runs gorgeously and is absolutely beautiful! For the future Joe is seeking a Hoover power team! Could be a Spirit, could be a Dimension 1000 or maybe a Spectrum??? --- We'll all have to await the excitement!!! I'm so happy for Joe as most everyone knows that Hoover power team canister vacuums are an all time favorite of mine. Perhaps TTI will gather some ideas of past greats such as the Celebrity, PowerMax and Dimension 1000 and others to create a new species using some of their tried and true previous technology with Wonderful cleaning power, fantastic FULL SIZED attachments ALL STORED on board. Most importantly though-- that traditional, pleasant, smooth sounding Hoover suction unit sound that isn't too high pitched or obnoxious like essentially all of the stuff on the present market.

Thanks again to all. It was truly great seeing everyone and making new friends: Robert, Luke, Greg!! Hope to see all of you again soon!

Greg and Kevin, we look forward to seeing both of you in the near future. I hope that you feel better and glad things are better in general!

the snow stops. This holly tree has 3 different types of lights. It's in the backyard. From the diningroom AND the bathroom, it's a Christmas beacon. Eveyone on Broad Street, (street behind me) was quite happy to see it. It was fun.

Matt was supposed to come for dinner last night

but was sick w/ laryngitis. Delicious leftovers are here. He was her Sat a.m when it was cooking. He thought the aroma of all that food was great. Nothing like a nice home cooked meal.
No worries of any random cooking, thank goodness.

Thanks for the pictures of the ornaments. I'm especially impressed with the crafty ornaments that your friend Janet made.

She's the most creative person I know. There is NOTHING she can't do. She sees the world very, very differently thanmost. She and her husband were ballroom dance students of mine. She had a very severe anuerism in her head. We've been through a lot.Every year, she makes these ornaments for her special friends. They're all over the house.
Perhaps "Santa" will deliver a HOOVER ornament to you next year.

That was a wonderful time. Was really great to meet some new collectors and to see old friends. John's hospitality is second to none. It was especially fun bringing that rare Handivac back to it's former glory and see it go to such a good home. Also to see how happy Joe was to receive a Hoover DAM that he hasn't been able to connect with for so long.

Don't feel too bad John but I also am still taking Christmas things down including my Grandmother's 1950's white table top 4' tree, some window candles and some stray Christmas lights. I don't think I have ever left things up until February before. Well tonight Christmas will officially ended at my place.

I was thankful the weather held out and that everyone made it home safely. Hopefully warmer days are ahead and I can't wait to see everybody again during the Summer.

Joel

You're welcome. Glad you could be here. You haven't looked that good in a long time. Congrats on the weight loss AND quitting smoking. See you soon. Wasn't it a great time?
Enjoy your Hoover Brushvac.

We're promise more snow tomorrow p.m.
Things are in total "disarray" while I "de-Christmas" the place.
Valentines are going up now, then shamrocks!
All of the cars here are dirty, as, it keeps snowing.
Mark's beautiful Cadillac, even! He has it parked, (see photo) in a parking lot across from his home. Behind the cars is about 35' of solid ROCK!. Just above that is the famed Pittston Hospital...... firmly built up there, far away from any danger of mine subsidence. That has been an issue around some parts.
So, that "haven on the hill" sits, next to it's old nursing school, overlooking the entire city, an awsome view from the top... I've been up on the roof......one could practically see New Jersey, if one cared to. (Well, THAT might be an exaggeration.... as I don't lie.) Don't you hate that?
So, Marks car, J.T.'s car, the former Mercedes, (sorry Mark, had to... we know about that "Caddy", lolol (inside joke there).
Hope you all enjoyed the step by step guide of the mega meet. I like to help people get a true feel for what they're like.
Again, people wanted to go down to the cellars..... Lots of cleaners, some of them are the non-Hoover species.......... lots of cleaner boxes. I keep those boxes. They DO serve a great purpose. I keep them filled with other vacuums. so terribly handy. It beats throwing them away. I mean what else would you do with them?Nothing like opening up a box and finding a nice HOOVER in it. Some are covered in plastic to keep them clean. They're pristine... no tears, rips or holes. And, there's now only a finite number of genuine boxes. Next time, more will emerge from the basements. 2 of those cellars have cleaners, polishers, even steamers in them.
