Electrolux 137,
I love my 700. I don't use it everyday but maybe once a month on the carpets to be able to let it run for a bit. It is mostly all original except for the plug, cord and furniture guard. The guard is from an old 725 but does not have hoover stamped on the front. The cord is from a model xxx, but looks and works great. I wish I knew you a while back when you had the garages full of parts. You probably had the parts I needed to finish her off. I think you once had the polisher attachment that I would have bought in a heartbeat as that is a part that I would of loved to have. I sure hope you get her running again. I do have two black rear wheels somewhere. Also a rubber cord. It was designed to run on 240v but since the U.S has 110v it would be fine. You can run 110v through a 240v cord but not the other way around as it would melt the wires. All my things are packed as I am moving tomorrow but when I get all unpacked I can send them to you as I will be living a 30 second walk from the post office. I will be offline till the 2nd of January but I will check messages once I am reconnected at my new address. All the best, Gary. |

in getting your 700 restored, hoover61. The old Hoover uprights are too cool. I have a 300 'Special' that was factory rebuilt a long time ago. I finally got an original shake-out bag for it, and it has awesome airflow now. The 300 is a pretty old machine, but it cleans like nobody's business. I was lucky enough to find original brush strips BRAND NEW in the package at my local vac shop. The agitation is louder than the motor! Haha!
I think you're gonna love it as a daily driver. |

Listen you will get the parts you need eventually, you will have to be patient about it.
These machines are very much worth keeping all those old hoover uprights really are excellent cleaners. When done up and sorted you will love it. I have an 800 and a 825 I would never part with them. It just takes time to get what you want. However there is no harm in making the machine cosmeticly attractive whilst you wait so its a nice to look at artistic item Its took me two years to get some bits for my 825 a bag and end cap for the rubber handle, but it was worth it and a bag clip slide the bits you need will come to you. I got my parts for my 825 from a guy on here and guess what didn't even want any money for them how nice is that. Don't be afraid to ask questions there are many guys on here who know the technical know how. I only know the cosmetic side of things and often ask more senior people on this site for advice and guidance. If you don't know ask a person who does. One thing I will say be wary of some vacuum shops in the high streets even if they do repairs some are like car garage repair shops and don't know what their doing with vintage, as I have found out before. |

Well now the hoover guard is no big deal its only a bit of rubber riveted on, firstly a modern black guard could easily be put on. At this age you wont get an orginal. Thats not a big deal a vac modern repair shop can do that for a start.
As for the bag well now, you can do a saved search in bay to let you know when one turns up. There are people on this site that make their own bags not difficult for the right person to do such as seamstress , the material you can buy on e bay 100% heavy gauged cotton drill in black. Amost identical to the original cloth. Dont do the poly mix would not look right. Brush roll rubber belt no probs any modern vac shop can find one to fit. As for the handle bar auto spray paint can tidy that up nicely. All this you can do while you wait for the other bits and it can sit pretty, good things don't come in one go. As like model A ford , these machines don't seem much different than a hoover senior in operation from the late 1950s like the one you call the convertible. You can auto sol aluminium polish the metal and she will look good to look at too.(don't use it on the badge though will take the enamel off. Trust me when this is eventually done you will love it. You never know a scrap hoover may turn up for next to nothing but with a good bag or wheels too, that's how it goes with old things and its all part of the fun. If you cant find any wheels then put some newer hoover senior wheels on and paint them black while you wait for orginals ive seen that done before. Its all good fun, then there are antique secondhand shops flea markets I think you call it to browse. I wish you the best of luck and this is not something for the dump how very dare you lol,if you think that then you best give it to a member here the poor old lady needs love and care. These machines were the rolls royce of vacuums in their day. |

My 700 was a gift along with many other vacs (mostly Hoover, Royal, and Electro-Hygiene) from a friend (and fellow collector) who was downsizing his collection about 4 years ago. Have the attachments for it too! Unfortunately, he has since gotten out of collecting altogether and has apparently gone into hermit mode. Have tried several times in the past year to contact him but always get his voicemail and never returns my calls. But in case he happens to look on here, thanks again my friend for helping to make my collection what it is today!
And here Jake, is a group shot of most of my early Hoovers. Left to right are a 541, 541 Special, 700, 725, 425, 450, and 825. Jeff |
