Hello all! (Don't worry, this is my last reply for today) I was snooping around my garage when I found this baby sitting in the back of my garage. It says Kenmore Carpet Sprayer. Any more details about this machine?

Carpet Cleaner

It was made in the 80's and 90's I believe. I have one just like it with out all of it's attachments. It has a water tank which holds the dirty water or dirt tank in place. The water pump is at the bottom of the water tank. It use to come with a carpet "power-mate" but that was with certain models. I don't know much more but if anyone knows more or can correct my statement, please do.

Kenmore Power Spray was the model. As stated by Vacuum Salesman, there are two tanks, the bottom one holds the clean water and the top one is for the dirty water. Some models did have the optional Spray Mate to scrub the carpets. An upholstery attachment was also available. It can be used with the pump turned off for wet or dry vacuuming (bags were available for dry use). There was also a Dry Mate PN available for dry pickup, as well as a floor nozzle and other attachments. Yours appears to be brown and beige, which puts it somewhere in the mid 80s. Earlier models were blue and white. In the early 90s it was red and black as the Heavy Duty series, or all black as the lower cost Cleanmore series. At some point it also came in light and dark gray. Two- and one-speed versions were available.

This machine was made by Ryobi/Singer and the Dry Mate looked like the PN from Singer System Canisters of the era. These were popular systems in the day, though I never saw any myself, I always wanted one. I found one with the Power Spray head at a thrift store a year or two ago, but I had no room to get it.

Later these were replaced with an almost turtle shaped carpet cleaner that also was made by Ryobi I believe and had the same attachments.

On a scale 1-10.

On a scale 1 to 10, how rare do you think this machine is? I just cleaned it all up and the noise is alright, but it runs like someone just hit it with a hammer. It has very good suction though.

I'd say "somewhat rare"

I have seen 3-4 of them myself. They appear to be good machines. I probably wouldn't buy one though, since I already have a Kenmore shampooer, a Drytech.

I have one myself

My aunt had it for so many years. Mine looks like the same model yours is and mine is loud as heck. It didn't come with anything besides a hose so I have never tested it. I use it as an "experiment vacuum" were I test different ways of capturing the dirt inside the tank. I haven't seen another like mine until now though. And I can never find any parts in stock. It still works though. It pumps the water and everything, I just need all of the attachments and filters and such before I can do something useful with it like shampoo my carpets.

I've only seen one, so I guess I would agree somewhat rare. I think many were possibly tossed as the tubing and parts started leaking and no replacements were available.

I also wanted to note I was incorrect on the successive turtle-shaped cleaner being made by Ryobi/Singer. It was actually made by Bissell and used the Bissell scrubber head.

I am not surprised these are loud units, many Singer vacuums weren't quiet such as the Twin Fan uprights!

I wanted to add, there was apparently another version of this Power Spray without the bottom tank and pump. Instead it used a hose to connect to the faucet.

Also, I was partly correct on the turtle shaped cleaner. Singer sold this as the Turtle carpet cleaner, and of course there was a Kenmore version. But Bissell sold it as well, as they bought the Singer-Ryobi floor care division in 1996.
