Hi all,
I have my Kirby 512 in for servicing, and my vac shop is having trouble finding a new fan for it. (The previous owners busted it.) They are not sure where one would be available. I have a hard time believing that there's NO new fan made for a 512 out there. Any thoughts to where one could be found? Thank You! -Mitchell

The part number you are looking for is 119078A.

Call Kirby up at 1-800-437-7170 for more info if need be.

I will tell the shop, and see if they'll order one.

Good luck. While I have given you this part number, chances are that I'd suggest you are really looking for a replacement metal fan. The last of that kind was part no. 1189S, which must be procured from a good model 515.

The vac-shop wasn't looking for a metal fan

fantomfan's profile picture
He was looking for the replacement plastic-like kind. He did say that he was going to ask the distributor.

119078A Fan Asy 505/515 Kit

this kit will have the white Amodel fan, a longer spacer (which takes the place of the back of the metal fan going into the front of the bearing plate) a metal washer for the front of the fan and a new belt spindle.

Any Kirby shop (distributor or service shop) can order this from Kirby. I just ordered another one for one of my Kirbys. It usually takes about 2 days from the time you order it till the shop has it.

Make sure you order this number with an A at the end, if you order it with and S at the end you will get the 516 thru Legend II kit which has a shorter spacer and won't work with your model.

If you try to find a metal fan it will most likely be a used one as they haven't made them in years, unless you're lucky enough to run across NOS in a dealers back room.

Ok, the shop cannot get a fan.

I am going to order the part myself. I am checking vac parts warehouse. I do see that it's the correct number. Will I need any other parts, if i'm switching from a metal to a plastic fan?

Nope, You don't need to order anything extra, all that you need comes with the fan.
That's odd that the vac shop can't get that for you. Steel City sells them as well as a number of Vac parts companies.

My shop doesn't deal with Kirby

fantomfan's profile picture
The owner (whom I have known for 4 years now) told me that they don't deal with the Kirby distributors. Their own distributors kept giving him the newer style fan. That's ok though, thank you for the info. I'll order it tonight!

I ordered the part!

I just ordered it last night, from vac parts warehouse. It was just under $20.

I am fed up with this thing!

fantomfan's profile picture
I just got the part today, and it's wrong. They sent me the newer fan, the 119078S, for 516 and up. I needed the 119078A and the form that came in the package had the CORRECT fan #. I'm not going to return it. It's too much of a hassle to ship back. It will be a waste of $$$$ for me to pay to ship it back and not be reimbursed for shipping. I'm going to keep it just in case I'll ever need it for my Sanitronic VII or Heritage II. In that respect, it wasn't a total mistake. I'm going to go out to a Kirby specialist in my area (NOT the mean one) and I'll try to get a fan there. Not a big deal, I know something will turn up eventually.

Mitchell,

No need to worry. All you need is the shaft and spacer specific to the fan kit you wanted since the impeller fan is basically the same for both.

The previous part # before 119078A was 118978.

I'll see what the Kirby guys have. I will be very pleased once all is fixed for this beast of a machine.
