Hi, I haven't posted in a while. Today I was looking through Google images and found this (see picture)
I didn't know that dyson made that type of floor tool in the De Stijl colours.
Any info?

I was only aware that they had that tool in the standard colour, but maybe they had that style on the early De Stijl models. That floortool was not a Dyson made tool as it appeared on the Sebo C1 I think, but I'm definately sure it was on some Sebo cylinder.

SS - yes it appeared on a SEBO (usually their C series vacuums but also some early K series models in other markets), but it is made by Wessel Werk. It was also made for other brands such as some early Morphy Richards models sold in other EU countries as well as Miele, with cosmetic differences, Nilfisk and others.

I like Dyson floor tools
They seal in the suction so well, like there are rubber seals around the perimeter, but there aren't. The DC08 Contact head is the best. It actually works! The contact head always is in contact with the floor

Is that a UK picture, as those tools were supposedly made for cleaners which were not sold in the UK. I think the none UK countries got the Absolute models before they were stocked in the UK. I know stocks of that tool in grey were very high which is why they were used on the standard DC02 long after the floor tool pictured in reply #1 was introduced for all the other DC02 and DC01 D/S cleaners.

Well theres the answer as to why they don't clean very well.

More sealing, less airflow. I get it now....

I remember these floorheads being in watchdog for not picking up pet hair. They had a vac off between a DC02, Henry, DC03 and some other upright, specifically tested on pet hair. It was after this that Dyson started using a different floortool.

Incidentally, neither this or the later style floortool for the DC02 were designed by Dyson.

I remember once using my DC08 with the contact head on a rug, and it took a dozen passes to pick up a piece of string, so I took the hose off and went over it with that. I have experienced this with all cylinder vacuus tbh due to no brushbar. Henry does it too

On which DC02 was this different floor tool? Because in the UK the DC02 Absolute and D/S went on sale in early 1997, both of which had the French-made floor tool with large rollers on the rear, whereas the DC03 was not launched until January the following year. Dyson then came out with their own floor tool towards the end of 1999, though as i recall it, it didn't actually work that well. This was the one which the grey & yellow standard DC02 changed to, along with all the other DC02 models on sale at that time.

I have two of the below style tool, both in the De Stijl colours. I don't think this design below was ever used on a DC02, as I'm fairly certain they were extras for the DC01 De Stijl. I dismantled one once and it said it was 'Made In France', so I'm assuming its not a Dyson made tool. If so, who would have made it?

That's the one. Never supplied with a grey & yellow DC02 in the UK from what I know, whereas all the other DC02 models were. This was one of the very best tools for carpets I have ever used - despite all the design and research which Dyson plough into the tools they made since.

It did come with the DDC02 & as an extra for a DC01. I have a 1997/1998 Dyson Spares leaflet which includes the above tool in Standard, DAS, Absolute & De Stijl.

That's the one, and that brochure looks the same as the one I own. I'm not sure where it is at the moment but I believe the tool was around the £35 mark.

Yes - as a spare, but the UK grey & yellow DC02 cleaner always had the type of floor tool as seen in the very first photograph in this thread. All other DC02 cleaners had that same tool as yours. Around the end of 1999, Dyson changed to one of their own (then) new floor tools for all models as seen here:

Well, from a business point of veiw, that tool has not hampered sales of the cleaners and it must cost pennies to mass produce. But as a floor tool it's far from the most effective - particulalry on carpets.

That floor tool that is still supplied with the Dyaons today is pretty good. However when I try to adjust the setting from carpet to hard floor on a hard floor, the suction is so strong that it is actually impossible. I tried this, and as a result the plastic bit you put your foot on broke off on my DC05
