Did any hair salons ever actually use the Kirby Turbo Groom Kit that was sold only during the Heritage I run (1981-84)?

No, not that i ever knew of Ben. I never used it in my shop because the clipper blade is too slow for me. Yes, it cuts the hair,,but a professional regular electric clipper blade cuts the hair much faster, better and easier. The Kirby clipper is bulky and noisy. But, all in all, is OK. Would certainly be fine for a home clipper job. I tried it in the salon once, just to see, and it was OK, i just prefer the professional clippers.

At one time the WAHL company had a vacuum clipper,,where there was suction from a small hose, hooked to the back of the clipper housing. I HAVE seen Barber Shops/Salons use those before, but you have to have either central vac, or a quiet vac behind the back bar, or else its too noisy. Gotta be able to talk to and hear the customer!

Brian,

I can see your point -- I mean who'd want to hear both the Kirby motor unit and clipper running?

The clipper unit has a turbine vane which functions similar to the Turbo Sander.

Thanks for the laugh, Brandon.

I do have a FlowBee kit upstairs in a box somewhere. Nice bit of Vacuum Ephemera.

Better yet, a few years ago I found a FlowBee Pet Groomer version in a secondhand store, in Turquoise, which provided a turquoise hose for one of my GE RollEasys.
The other loooong blue-grey hose is from a pool vacuum and very handy for spring cleaning the cars.

The Kirby Turbo Groom is built by Wahl, all the guides and blades have Wahl stamped on them. Prior to Kirby marketing the Turbo Groom it was marketed under the Preco Name, the company that designed the turbo Power Nozzle for many central vacuums and also the same Power Nozzle that Singer used in the '50's on their canister vacuum line. I used to use a Kirby Turbo Groom in the '80's to keep my beard groomed, it worked very well, yes, it was noisy, like any other turbine driven device, but it definitely was not slow spinning, I did use it on my central vacuum, it groomed my beard as well as my Oster Classic 76 barber shop clipper without the mess of hair all over the floor.

The Heritage Turbo Brush? I've heard that it was built by VacuFlo, but I'm not sure. It says "Made in Canada" on the underside.
