When I use the hose on my H-II Kirby; sometimes it will not switch on and I have to hit or kick the back of the motor housing to get it to start. The orange power pilot light goes on-however. Is this a common problem with this model?

Sounds like a safety switch issue...

Check to make sure the hose contacts the safety/speed switch properly.
