A big box showed up on my porch the yesterday and my latest eBay purchase was inside. It needs some repairs which I will be doing soon. I have been looking for a Eureka or Sanitaire with this style hood for a long time, I didn't even know that they were available in chrome until I saw this one. I have some big restoration plans for this vac!

That'll be a stunner when you are finished! Good score!

my former Eureka

Glad it has a good home and a great rug to clean. This was always a rarely seen model. Will be easier to find basic parts than this combination of bag, chrome and wide bumper. And you can pick and choose cord length, type of agitator,to repaint or not, etc.Or maybe a chrome handle?Enjoy--Happy Vacuuming.
(I have a few deluxe Eurekas and several from the blue period left.Watch EBay or save me the trouble and bring a truck!)

Restoration

vintagevaclover's profile picture
Yes! A chrome handle with a blue handle grip & cord hooks (all new from Sanitaire) is exactly what I want for this. I would also like to put a blue 35' commercial cord on it as well. I would never paint such a lovely chrome hood, so I'll leave that alone. As for the bag, I've ordered a Sanitare Blue F&G Triple Allergen Filtration bag with the red yin-yang logo of coarse. And for the motor, I'm also going to order a 7Amp Sanitaire Heavy Duty Commercial Motor to put in this one for some extra power. I also plan to put a Vibra-Groomer 1 helix brushroll with the beater bars in it. I've never actually seen a vintage Sanitaire that was blue, did they have those? Or will this be the first one?

Replacement Bag

vintagevaclover's profile picture
The new bag arrived today, but the company sent the wrong one. Ugh lol. I ordered one that was kind of a royal blue with the red logo. The one they sent me is a slate blue color and dosent have a logo. It looks like the one that comes on the new Sanitaire professional series vacs, but it won't match my blue bumper. Oh well, now I have to send it back and get the right one. Ugh lol

I have a model like that but it includes a headlight. Does yours happen to be five amps or higher by any chance?

No, it's a 3.5 Amp right now, but not for long, I'm going to put a heavy duty 7 Amp Sanitaire commercial motor in it.

I thought this was a rare RetroVac. If this ain't a Retrovac, when was this Eureka upright produced?

The Project is FINALLY Almost Done!!!

vintagevaclover's profile picture
This has been one of my longest running projects but now all that's left is the commercial-length blue cord, the right hood decals, & the Vibra-Groomer 1 brushroll. It runs sooo well though and I have a few more pics to come.

Awesome vac

I love these old Eurekas, especially the lovely shape of the hood. I've been meaning to get a chrome hood Sanitaire for a while, but I've had other projects. You did a great job on that one! My 1424 has the same shape hood, too.

This has to be my favourite hood style that Sanitaire/ Eureka made. The only thing that this one lacks is the headlight but that isn't a huge deal for me. This one is the first one in that style I've ever seen in chrome so I had to have it lol. There were not many Sanitaires made with this hood style except for the very early ones I think.

It's always cool when you find something you've had for a while and suddenly you have a new use for it.

That's close to my house. That place has been in business forever. A very honest, and fair shop. Next time I'm in there ,I'll have to direct the owner to this thread.
