I LOVE LOVE LOVE this vacuum! This machine has such incredible power for a lightweight. It's everything that every Oreck lightweight never was. This machine appears to be very well made and great attention was given to the way it was packaged for shipping.

Partial assembly was required.....

No biggie. My first observation about the machine was that the two screws holding the handle together had machine threads, not wood screws going into plastic like on some other brands.

Hard shell bag case

Something that was long needed on a lightweight upright.

I haven't seen that on a lightweight since the very first Oreck

Outta da box and ready to party!

I went over the rugs in my corporate apartment with this after months of using another very good machine. After 3 sessions of vigorous vacuuming, I managed to fill up 1/4 of the bag.

Gorgeous Machine. And you're right, it IS the best lightweight upright ever made. Will clean rings around any awful-wreck ever built. Congratulations on a GREAT vacuum. Glad you like it. The 216 Americans with a JOB making them, will be happy that you are so satisfied.

NICE--the Greenville Sew&Vac has one of these-will have to try it!Like the metal rollerbrush!-To top it off the stiff bag case and Filtrete bag.Yes,a definate "Oreck Killer"!Its also said the fans and fancases in these Riccar-Simplicity machines are larger and stronger than Oreck.Just wonder how well this will do on my "ankle deep" pile carpeting.

I have an F3700, the older style TOL machine with the permanent belt and metal brush roll. I LOVE that vacuum! So light and yet it cleans so amazingly. I'd rank its performance right under the tandem air machines. The dual motor setup gives the TA machines a bit more power so I'd say they do a little better, but for such a light vacuum you couldn't ask for more.

I have the RSL4 Riccar

and have always been very impressed with the little vac's go git it cleaning ability.
Recently when I had eye surgery for a detached retina and macular hole I had a 10 lb weight limit of lifting. I used the Supra lite exclusively for the three weeks I was on restrictions and it did a great job maintaining the carpet.

My one and only criticism of the little Riccar is that it is a little delicate in the fan department. The fan is almost a bakalite type of material and is very unforgiving of a diminished sight person picking up something on the floor. Even sand and kitty litter will meet with a loud protest from the little guy.

I know you can't expect built like a tank performance from a light weight, so not faulting the machine, just pointing out the observation.

The fan material on the new models was changed to polythalmide, just like Kirby fans are now. The Quality Control department runs 100 quarters through one motor out of each pallet of motors, to test the fans. So far, no breakage in almost a year's worth of the new fan materials being used.

Well we're Not doing the "100 quarter test at MY hou

Website is having trouble with my input. (I'll be a good sport and try not to think of any theories why) ANYWAY..... The message was supposed to read: "Well we're not doing the "100 quarter test at my house". LOL

One thing I gotta say: I'm always curious about suction on these 8 pounders. I like to take off the belt and put my hand over the fan intake to get an idea of the suction. The Orecks would lightly pull against my fingers. I tried this with the S10P and the first thing I noticed is that the machine would shut off....repeatedly. This is when I figured out that the overload / belt protection was based on belt revolution speed, which makes much more sense than thermal protectors, an antiquated method that's been used since the 1950's. I've got to give the real Electrolux their propers. They had a "circuit breaker" on the PN1 back in the day.

Well, the rest of the story is that I reconnected the belt, turned the machined to high, and then put my hand over the fan intake. It nearly sucked my fingers in! Just sayin............

I am very careful, but a penny did one is PDQ.

Good to know it will hold up to 100 quarters........

However, I think most of us are more conscientious in our vacuuming. I don't expect my housekeeper to show as much genuine care and concern for my machines as I do and this is the precise reason why I need a new one. I had a perfectly good Oreck XL-21 until Natalia got a hold of it. Now it's more like an XL-07. Needless to say, there will be a training inservice with this new machine and I speak fluent Spanish so I know we'll understand each other very well.

Maybe I'm an odd bird, but I always liked the idea of a free standing upright - meaning no onboard tools. They add so much weight to the machine and that's why I find the 8 pounder to be so refreshing. Look at at how many decades went by with uprights that had no tools on-board. The Hoover Convertible circa 1960 probably weighs as much as a Eureka loaded down with tools.

How well does the fancase in these Riccar/Simplicity vacuums hold up?I have seen Oreck fans go thru the coin test OK-but their fancase gets busted! It didn't matter if the Oreck had the metal or plastic fan.

do you happen to know the test results of the Simplicity Freedom Premium model S10P versus say a Kirby Sentria?

"The 216 Americans with a JOB making them"

Tom, I sure hope these employees are well taken care of because their products are outstanding! I don't want to get bogged down about "globally sourced" vs "American Made". There's enough of that in my life already. I drive a Tundra and I'm surrounded every day at work by others who criticize me because my truck isn't "Uhmurrican" (Texas accent humor. sorry). Even though it's manufactured in San Antonio, it's still a Toyota. What matters most is that products like Tacony's are well made with pride and that there are jobs created as a result.

Some questions for the group: Is there a brand of TOTALLY American made vacuums that doesn't cost over $1000 if bought new? Is there a TOTALLY American brand that isn't encumbered by its legacy of shady salesman and their unscrupulous tactics? Not to pour salt in anyone's wounds because I know there are some very good American brands, I just don't know of any that meet this criteria.

Simplicity Freedom

John,
Thanks for posting. It looks like a very nice machine.
How is the noise level? I like the color and the brush roller.

I have never owned a Simplicity or Ricarr but have looked at them in the vacuums stores. They seem to have very high quality when compared to what Eureka and Hoover are offering today. I was impressed with the vibration test on the full size uprights and some of the single motor uprights that were demonstrated were pretty quiet and had a quality feel to the machine and the complete tools sets offered with a long hose. I liked the fact that the machine DID NOT fall over with the tool use like my Hoover and Dyson uprights.

I'm not sure the newer fan will fit in the older style machine. I haven't had the new one apart, but I suspect there may have been changes made in the fan housing as well that may make them non-interchangeable.

Yes,Note how similar the Riccar fancase is to the Air Way one!The Air Way one looks tough enough to handle nuts&bolts--Not that I would use the Air Way for that.----But some folks would!!!If its on the floor they expect the vacuum to pick it up!A story from several years ago out here-former Riccar dealer.A customer walked in and looked at the Riccar Radiance vacuums-they had just come out.The customer threw several drywall screws on the vac place floor. He says"If that Riccar vacuum will pick those screws up-I will buy it"So Bill the shop owner obliged him.I cringed during this demo-but the Riccar ate the screws-and no apparent damage-mind you drywall screws are tough and SHARP-even more so than nails. The screws were ones used with drywall screwguns. And they are tough enough to driven into STEEL Studs!-and without a predrilled hole! The prospect bought the vacuum.I hope ingesting drywall screws isn't going to be its everyday diet!So far haven't seen any Riccars come in from damage due to drywall screws.Their fans and fancases must be tough to withstand them!

Rob aka williamr1248

The noise level doesn't bother me. It's about the same as the Oreck, maybe a little less. I don't think it's fair to critique a direct air upright on noise because they're noisier by design. I do remember the 1st generation TOL being quieter than the entry level model, so I'd be curious about comparing this with the cheaper model of the current design. Seems like I remember that the other model had some kind of shroud or cover on the motor? This is definitely a question for Tom.

Do you have any more pictures or even a video of that DirtMasteR? I think it's a fascinating machine, and I would love to see one in action! All of AirWay's machines are fairly interesting, my new Sanitizor 66 just came in yesterday. LOVE IT!!! laughing

5 month update: Dust Retention

I just gave the the interior of the outer bag a "white glove test" to see if any of the dust was escaping. Using a slightly damp paper towel, I wiped the inside of the bag. It came back white and clean! It must be because of the way the bag attaches to the machine. The latch mechanism that fastens the bag to the machine is part of the bag collar and not part of the machine, so there's nothing to wear out. My XL21 with the Saniseal has worn loose over time, so I know this is why the inside of the its outer bag is dusty.

I'm so glad that you're happy with your Simplicity. Since the awful-wreck existed before the design of the Simplicity, we were able to ask owners of 'wrecks' what they didn't like about the machine - and proceeded to design a truly great cleaner based on their feedback.

Those Bravos and Elites are NOT in the same category as the Premium Simplicity. Those were disposable and fragile machines (I've repaired literally hundreds of Bravos and Elites) - the Simplicity is a durable and well built vacuum.

I have a Riccar RSL4

So I already conceded that they are not the same, however, I have dust leaking around the neck where the handle attaches to the fan case. And I do rank the RSL4 as effective, but very delicate.

I do like the little guy, but for durability I would rate it a 2.

The new Premium model that was pictured, is completely changed in design as well as the seals around the fan case, based on the old Air-Way DirtMasteR design. The RSL4 was a good machine, but a very dated (more than ten year old) design.

I bought the RSL4

Seven years ago, it was the hottest puddle in the sand at that time.
Will have to look at the new Premium model. Maybe a trade is in order.

It is from about 2007 or 2008. It is a Riccar/Simplicity in Hoover clothing. I really like it even though the newest design seems far superior. It is definately my favorite lightweight upright, and definately cleans better than my Oreck XL. It's simple yet so effective.

I have the TOL Freedom (had the TOL Riccar RSL5 but gave it to my friend Jonathan when he moved), and even the older design with HEPA bags didn't leak at all. I suppose the new ones are even better, but I never had an issue even before the improvements were introduced. The TOL lightweights with the metal brushrolls are amazing.

My favorite demo is to work pink sand into the carpet (got it at the hobby store). The S10Premium (and the R10Premium as well) make the sand jump a few inches out of the rug - quite like the old Hoover 700 did.

I would love to get my hands on one of the lightweight uprights from Tacony. The only vacuum I have is a straight-suction Dirt Devil canister (link below) while there are carpets in my house. Sometimes, my father lends me his bagless Bissell upright for the carpets, but I don't trust the machine much. In a thread I posted about my Dirt Devil, some people suggested that I get a turbo brush for my canister, but do any of you believe that even an entry model Freedom/Supralite upright would outperform a TTI canister with a turbo brush from Wessel werk or my father's Bissell? Should I get a Freedom or a Supralite if I had enough money?

I actually reached out to Tom after reading up on these machines and I got the red Riccar which I absolutely love! Yes, there are limitations in that it doesn't have tools on board but I tend to use my central vac with hide a hose for my wood floors and furniture cleaning. Besides, I had a Shark Rotator with a Powered lift away ( returned after recall) and a Dyson DC65 and using the hose on board was a pain in the rear. Emptying the bins wasn't for me and the Dyson felt very creaky. Overall I really love the Riccar. My parents still have a blue Simplicity 5200 from the 1990's in their basement so I know it will last a long time! Thanks again Tom!

These machines are destined to become tomorrow's classic collectors item. Awesome performance and craftsmanship! Even my housekeeper was impressed! Although I'm most impressed with the fact that she hasn't killed it yet! She has a helper who comes with her when she's here every two weeks. The helper asked what plans I had for the XL 21 sitting in my closet. She turned and looked at her help her and gave her a filthy look! Priceless!
