Does anyone have any experience of the above? Bagged or Bagless. I want to get a straight suction cleaner and have looked at the obvious choices of Miele, Dyson and Sebo, but there's something quite appealing about the Aeg designs. Has anyone got one or used one? How do they compare?

Personally I'd go for Miele or Sebo they have s better track record. I believe AEG are made in China

I like the look of the AEG vacs too but someone on here (UK member) had one a long time ago and complained that the floor heads aren't well made. Also the grid inside the bag chamber over the bag for insulation is liable to snap. Its a real shame though because I trialled one in John Lewis a few years ago and they're super quiet - quieter than Miele.

AEG may have improved though. I love the Ultra One mini vac - great space efficient design.

Also bags for the AEG are difficult to get - apparently.

Id hold out for the SEBO E Airbelt though - it has a bigger dust bag capacity and looks to be quite good. Failing that, a Miele S6 or S8.

Hotpoint Trolley vacs are good though.

Id love to know where you get your evidence from suggesting AEG doesn't get a good track record.

Well an old customer report Asked people how many people got their vacuun cleaner repaired and Electrolux had a lot of repairs.

I have heard so many complaints about AEG. But as you say they may have improved. The UltraOne is a nice looking machine. But personally I'd go Miele or Sebo its a safer bet. And yes if you can wait to February the Sebo E series would definitely be worth considering!

I do like Dyson uprights but I'm not so convinced by their cylinder cleaners.

February? Well the model is about to hit SEBO UK in a couple of weeks. You might be able to buy an E -series Airbelt sooner than you think.

Well, since you don't appear to give an indication of how "old" the report is that suggests Electrolux is poor, Which in 2012 and 2013 rated SEBO number 1 for uprights, Miele number 1 for cylinders and Dyson 'below average" for reliability. I don't remember seeing AEG being listed primarily because the company in the UK have yet to sell as many vacuums compared to longer standing brands.

Dyson canisters are fantastic just as good as their uprights.

Electrolux and aeg are the same company.i Have had a AEG upright I had to have 3 replacements before I had one in good condition end up getting rid of that one as It started to break.

Yes but the question that Mark posted initially RELATES TO AEG CYLINDER VACS - not uprights.

I know their power nozzle was very unreliable. John Lewis don't stock that model now. Or it may have been discontinued .

Of yes there have been many complaints regarding Dyson but they sell a lot if machines and have many happy loyal customers. There are also complaints about Sebo Miele and any other company you care to mention. You can't please all if the people all of the time. :-) Dyson remain the biggest seller in the USA and the UK so they must be doing something right :-)

Marcus - the power nozzle model in the UK was short lived. I think at the time AEG were either about to get the Nimble upright under their own name - and possibly didn't want to steal sales or interest away from its uprights.

it is very confusing given that Electrolux own three different names for floorcare in the UK - budget line with Zanussi, middle line with outgoing Electrolux name (since 2014 Electrolux will no longer apply their name to vacuums) from catalogue stock and AEG reserved for the premium end of the market.

Previously John Lewis also had an Electrolux bagged HiLight upright vacuum under their JL name.

Wow, so many comments already! Just googled the Sebo E series, looks good. I didn't like the K series and the D series would likely be too big for me. Perhaps the E will be the one.

I guess my old Miele S250 will soldier on for a bit until the E arrives. The only thing putting be off another Miele is the cost of the bags. I've been using cheap ebay ones for a few years but wouldn't want to do that with a new one.

Mark - what about the S8 or budget S2? That uses the bigger GN 4.5/5 litre dust bags?

Well Sebo Fan if they were so unreliable people would turn away from them in their droves. But they have many loyal customers so that must tell you something
OK not as reliable as Sebo but they have a huge fan base.

I've been using gn bags in the 250 to extend the life of each bag. I have 4 dogs so they fill quickly! Hence mentioning aeg or dyson bagless to save consumable costs, and perhaps bag odours too.

I totally agree with you there. Didn't like the K series. I liked the D series but too big n bulky for my home. I'm very much looking forward to the E series :-)

Well if you have pets and that many dogs, get a bagless. Or Numatic's Henry Hound.

Numatic also score number one for reliability according to Which.

I will say this about Dyson - they are popular because of their constant selling approaches AND because SOME of their vacs are excellent - however the high price doesn't always justify excellent design - and that's the main difference between DYSON and a lot of the other premium brands.

AEG's bag capacity is around 5 litres, so you're not winning on that much extra capacity over the Miele.

However - your S250 has a smaller bag chamber - so even using the GN bag may not be filling it up completely. Bag chambers in both the S2, S5 and S8 are larger for the dust bags.

That's the one thing I don't like about bagged machines the smell specially as you have 4 dogs. Maybe a bagless would be a good idea. Does it have to be a cylinder cleaner?

Post# 304869 , Reply# 33   11/5/2014 at 14:58 (3,451 days old) by marcusprit ()

They are overpriced that is the one thing that annoys me about Dyson. £250 to £280 should be the maximum price of their machines

I dont find bagless any better for containing smells. So many owners forget that if they own pets, its the hose, tubes and tools that have to be cleaned out - otherwise they stink because of the pet hair OILS.

When you think you can buy a Vax with NLOS which admittedly you'd end up having to wash the filters all the time PLUS have a 6 year guarantee slapped on it, there's a lot to be said for buying cheap.

However, if I owned that many pets I'd probably have two vacuums - one with a large dust bag capacity such as the Numatic option (or even a SEBO D2) and a bagless for every day hair removal.

But with owning dogs (and having had to put up with the ones my relatives bring when they visit and stay for months at a time) I also do a lot of steam cleaning to neutralise areas, especially carpet. Once the carpet has dried out, the amount of pet odour is LOWER than relying on dry dirt suction all of the time.

Post# 304876 , Reply# 37   11/5/2014 at 15:17 (3,451 days old) by marcusprit ()

Yes a bissell carpet cleaner is a good investment. I clean my carpets 2 to 3 times a year.Steaming is also an option to freshen them up as you say. And a henry is a good recommendation as very low running costs.

Sadly now they are utter tosh...
